Not sure if this is the right place (if not apologies in advance) but...Has anyone done (or contemplated doing) an army based on a genestealer worshipping cult of humans? I seem to remember reading something to this effect (WD or some other fluff article) and was intrigued by it.
I'm getting kinda' itchy to do another army besides 'nids but want to stay true to the bug-like voice inside my head. Your thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated.

I'd like to do a "stand-alone" genestealer cult army (i.e. Imperial world/defense force population worshipping the hive mind with the help of genestealers in hopes of attracting the hive fleet, etc.) but could integrate some of my existing 'nid army into it to add a little variety. If anyone's done this before I could use some advice. :hmm:

well, I haven't done it myself (yet) but I have face a genestealer cult army a couple of timesin 3rd ed.

The problem with the genestealer cult is that it is not official. so forget tournament play and things like that. there are some unofficial lists floatinga round the internet so you should be able to find something via the usual search engines.

basically you get a patriarch (the oldest genstealer) as an HQ and a human magus as well. usually you have hybrids and humans as troops and genestealers as elite.

in most cases you will have some kind of IG allies, that usually means IG tanks.

Fluffwise I would suggest reading the old death wing stories.

I am not sure if that answers your question, but just PM me, if you want.
    Shut up and play.

Thanks for the info Lamenter. Not looking to do the tournament thing with 'em just want to add a little diversity while still remaining true to my 'nidiness. I'll start searching.

Ask around the official GW forums, the moderator known as "Hivemind Tim" is the one most knowledgeable of all things culty... His 'Stealer Cult rules were featured in a Citadel Journal way back in the beginning of 3rdEd, and he has probably kept them updated on his own.

Even if not, he's probably got the best ideas regarding alternate army lists which could be used to depict 'Stealer Cults (Lost and the Damned, IG Doctrines, etc).

The only models You can use from Your existing Tyranid army are the 'Stealers themselves, as "Purestrain Genestealers" for the Cult army... This due the way 'Stealer insurrections work, often taking place before the arrival of the Tyranid hivefleet.

Once the Tyranids arrive the cult has either been victorious and the remaining cult-infested populace simply walking into the digestion pools, or the cult beaten to scattered remnants fighting an underground guerilla war resulting in a planet in turmoil, unable to effectively fight back against the freshly arrived Tyranids.

Currently there are no sources that would state that Tyranids would fight next to Genestealer Cult forces, despite there being rather obvious advantages in doing so (from a human standpoint)... The cult will simply be rendered into fresh biomaterial to build more Gaunts out of. =)
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
