The big flying pyramid is called a monolith and it is hard to blow it up because it IGNORES the special effect of your Dark lance so you need 6! for glancing hits IGNORE IT. The thing of his lord is a CC weapon that IGNORES invulnereble saves. STAY OUT OF HIS WAY. They got a nasty rule called well be back when necrons ''die'' (without being blasted away with instand kill) he has to put them on there back side watever. The next turn if there is stil a unit of the squad of another squad of the same type within 6 he may make well be back rolls. On a roll of 1 2 and 3 nothing happens but on a rol of 4 5 and 6 they are alive again and continue fighting like nothing happened. They also got a nasti rule AGAINST themselves. called PHASE OUT. when there is 25% of the total army models left he loses they just vanish. (So if he got 20 model 25% is 5 so if yo ushoot 15 dead then they will al vanish and he loses the game) ok now for the tips.

-Use disentegrators to get his warriors down.

-Target his warriors and other weak units so he will phase out pick the easiest targets.

-Remember that his troops cant have ANY upgrades and therefor the maximum range they can shoot is 24 (hahah )

-Send in a Talos if he is quit new to 40k he will notice that he has a hard time getting it dead .

-aim your dark lances at things called heavy destroyers or destroyers. You can recognize them as they fly around on a big surfboard thingie they are your only treath on longe range.

-Beef up your archon wit ha agnoniser and SF perhaps even combat drugs again go for the weakest units.

-Wyches are ***** leave them @ home.

I have only played 13 batlles against necrons but won all 13 of them. The destroyers can hurt prett bad due to S9 AP2 weapons or something the monolith is very tough nut to crack but it will consume ALOT of his points making it easier to let him phase out. Try to ignore it I know its hard because he shoots like hell but you will not get it down so fast. I hope this will help.

Regards Archonbjorn pm me with any questions I am sure I can answer almost all of them.

i find there is really only one way to fight against necrons, and that's to do a marine killing army to the max.

this may one of those times where taking a shadow field is a bad idea, because the warscythe can ignore both armour and invulnerable saves. a necron lord will indeed beat you senseless in a one-on-one with your lord. do your best to stick the talos against his lor, bout the only thing you got really able to kill it, and even then, no garantees.

the monolith is much tougher than you think. from what i understand, they are AV 14 all round, and ignores the dark lance bonus against it.

keep the incubi and give the lord someting that ignores saves. stick them in a raider to chew through the warrior squads and earn yourself a bucketful of points.

"sniper squads"? are they units with dark lances? if so, use them to take down any destroyers they may have.

use haemonoculi to stop those warroirs and immortals shooting.

final bit of advice, anything ap 3 is your friend. it helps to knock em down easier, so they get only their we'll be back roll.

Yeah, this is excellent! TY Angel of Rust!

@ apllebone
I disagree with taking no shadowfield. A shadowfield is vital for your lords survival.
Against normal necron warriors or immortal thing like opponents he will stil get his save. those 25 points are a insurance your lord will almost always reach the other side and wreaking some havoc. Incubi's are a good id indeed but there quit expensive and in a small point game a dark lance squad may be more effectvie then 4 incubi's (IMHO).

And yes sniper squads are Dark lances. And the momolith has AV14 allaround not to mention he can teleport units in or out CC. Just like I said he needs 6 for a glancing hits. (14-S8=6)

But your hamo technique is kinda. . . I dont think it will be worth it prefer a destrutor hamo to ''flame'' over the necrons 50% chance you will get a AP3 weapon. (Hint for all DE players that like hamo's use special characters Urien rakarth his weapons auto wound so use a destructor that means auto hit and wound ^^)

But your right at one point trying to max out a anti space marine list. You do not have to worry about tanks or walkers. (monolith is a exception) but if you guys are gonna play a 1000 points game and he uses one then he is a big noob (srry but it is in my opinion.)

Lord costs 200 Troops 360 total of 550 with momo ad 250 total of 800. That leaves him 200 points left to invest in other units. Making it very easy to let him phase out as experience has taught me. (Get ravagers with 3 disintegrators get down his heavy destroyers with your dark lances first so he has no long ranged weapons and then get them out of cover and let them shoot 3 AP3 blasts on those necrons every turn)

i dont know if this is a great idea but my wyches might do quite well in this battle since they have initiatives of 6 and necros warriors has initiatives of 2 if i remember corrently they can sweeping advance and kill all cause u can take any saves juring running away but the problem is that will a sqaud of wyches + raider squad+ haemi make a sqaud of warriors fall back.

Necrons.. they are a fun army to play against. They have good firepower and defence, but are slow, and stink in hth. Remember that...

WBB. THe biggest rule that you will hate, there warriors are pretty good. THe solution: 3 ravagers, in your case 2 with disintegrators. HEAVY WEAPONS KNOCK THE THINGS OVER FOR GOOD. DOnt use all your dark lances here though. THe talos should do a pretty good job holding up the ground in the middle of your army, and can get to those squads. Ravagers are awesome. THey will provide you excellent disintegrator fire.

Dark lance squads should eat up those destroyers with ease. Its an easy thing to accomplish. THe raider squad should be sent into hth with anything that troubles you. Necs suck in hth, you know what to do...

YOur raider with archon pumped and some incubi is good enough. Keep them well hidden. Id suggest using warriors in there instead of incubi, but if thats the models you have, use them they are good enough.

Wyches. NOT really necessary as the hth skills are too expensive and good against the necs. Against necs they arent recomended, try substituting them for warriors possibly.

Now, we got the monolith and the nightbringer. THey are powerful models. THey are expensive models. Hence, the less models on his field, the quicker the phase out

Avoid the lith at all costs. Its very powerful, but it can be avoided. IT shoots ordanance, but you should kill enough troops to wipe out his junk before he does it to you. The nightbringer is strong, it goes through invulnerables. THerefore, avoid him too, he doesnt have that much mobility I think... SO you got your raiders, no problem!

I hope this clues you in on what the necs are like and how to counter the problems you face. Good luck!

Another tip that isn't been mentioned before.
Massacre rule or something. When you whipe out the whole squad and consolidate they may NOT use WBB rolls ^^.

And watever unit you are gonna use in CC give the sybarite/succubus always a AGONISER they pwn those necrons faster then you think. Get for a wych succucbus goblit of spite.

Another thing that might work but I have never tried this before its just an id. Put some grots with your lord in a raider get them in CC your lord chops the necrons and due the special rule the necrons will auto fall back

You could try taking a squad of grotesques that are going to shield one or two haemonculi. Necrons tend to deploy in clusters so their player is sure to get the WWB rolls even if a squad of warriors is taken down completely, so stingers and destructors will hit the maximum amount of targets. Also, apart from heavy destroyers and the monolith (and cc of course), there is nothing in the necron army that can hurt grotesques (and grotesques are better in cc than necrons). You could have one of the haemonculi taking a wwp as well to have your hq come in through. If the necron lord doesn't have a veil of darkness, any unit of necrons that you have locked in combat is a unit of necrons not being able to shoot, as well as one of your units safe from being shot.

I've played against Necron 3 times and won all 3 times. ^^^ Everything mentioned above is true, use that info, but I'll add a bit of my own...

If your opponent has a BIG squad of Scarabs, try to crash your Talos into it. They can't wound it and you instant kill them with your uber strength.

Watch out for a Necron Lord with Destroyer body with 3 Wraiths accompanying it. Don't underestimate Wraiths. They have 3+ Inv. save, str 6 and fast initiative too. Your Archon will most likely kill a Lord on the charge and you'll always strike 1st with your Init. 7 . But make sure your Incubi take out those Wraiths. They have 1 wound so they fall over easy. And if a Wraith hits your Archon ONCE and you fail that 2+...say RIP to your Archon.

Necron Warriors are tougher than you think. They don't go down easy and they can get back up. Sure they suck in HTH but they are stronger, tougher and better armoured then your own troopers. Leave the Wyches at home and invest in Sniper Squads.

Good luck!!!11

I play against necrons with my cult often, and I think I have some valuable information for the group.

1. Disintigrators don't negate the We'll Be Back(WB roll. When shooting, you must have a weapon able to do instant kill (S8 on T4 warriors and S10 on T5 Immortals and Lords), but they are still a very viable option as they still negate the armor save, and in a pinch, can be used to wipe out scarab swarms. Power weapons and other hand to hand gear that negates armor saves do not have to be double the toughness to negate WBB.
2. Most of the time, even if you use insta-kill weapons or power weapons/agonisers, a smart Cron player will have his res-orb on a lord nearby that will allow everyone a WBB roll. It's a pain in the butt, but a Cron leader without a res-orb is like an Ar/Dra-chon/chite without a shadow field.
3. Focus on one whole squad at a time. Put all of your heavy weapons first onto the long range stuff (destroyer/heavy destroyer). If you can take care of all of those, you can keep the brunt of the Cron force at arms length for a couple of turns and wail away with your own long range, just make sure to put every gun on a unit untill it is completely dead.
4. The Monolith is a scary beast considering our strongest weapon against it needs a 6 to glance. Use your speed to avoid it as best as you can. Concentrate on killing troops. Like most everyone else said, the cost of the Lith is a huge point sink in the number of troops fielded, making it that much more to force a phase out.
5. Don't underestimate your hand to hand ability, but don't overestimate it either. His lord with a warscythe can cut through your lord easily, but that's about all the CC power his whole army has. If you can hit a warrior unit and break it, you'll most definately run it down. (Make sure you kill any nearby tomb spiders before launching an assault. You need to outnumber the crons by a lot in hand to hand to create a modifier that will make the cron player sweat the leadership check. A tomb spider is a monstrous creature, and will add 10 wounds to the pile for the purpose of outnumbering)
