Welcome to Librarium Online!
i collect tyranid and i want to know how you would beat tau if you had
1 winged hive tyrant
20 spine gaunts
3 biovores and maybe some genestealers
and he had
2 hammer heads with railguns and rockets
2 broadsides with twin linked rail guns and rockets and a shield generator (2+ and a 4+inv)
2 packs of 6 fire warriors
1 stealth team with shas'vre and shield drone and marker light
1 commander with rockets, fusion blaster (str8 ap1), flamer, shield generator (4+inv), multi-lock (fire more than one gun), and 2 shield drones (4+inv)
how would you win if you were me?
i cannot change my list as these are the only men i have and my tournaments next week
I would definetely say you are in for a world of hurt.
Pray for a quick death and hope your opponent is a good sport about winning.
If you have any stealers, make them one unit choice and the 20 spine gaunts your second unit choice. Space them out at 2" so the Tau gets the least out of his Hammerhead Railguns.
What is the weapon layout for your Carni/Tyrant? If they both have dual Venom Cannons, you may stand a chance. If you can take down those Hammerheads, there may be a slim shot at you making it.
What is the mission you are going to play? Is is set or is it going to be up to a die roll? If we knew this, we might be able to suggest some better tactics. (Though reading the other posts, "Dying" really isn't a tactic.)
Gyauayuayuayua! Ja! Ve vill crush da little girly men in deir little girl men awrmor! Ve vill see owur enemies driven befowur us, und hear da lahmentaytions of deir wemen. Und from owur home planet, de stayte uf Califowurnia, ve vill lawunch owur mighty offensive. Even if you kill us, ve'll be bach!! Gyauayauyauyauyau!
-Arnoldunit Schwarzenecronegger; when questioned about the impending doom he would rain down upon the heads of his doomed enemies.
well, your going to have a challenge on your hands to say the least!
What weapons does your fex have?
I would suugest duel Vcannons, try to stun one of those hammer heads before they cause too much damage on your limited troops :glare:
Get the winged tyrant in CC ASAP, equip it with 2 scything talons and give it warp blast, blast at target then charge, you will tear apart firewarriors! Or go for the hammerhead in CC and warp blast but be quick with that many rail guns on the board there will few gaunts left... or TMC is s/he solid shots!
Zoanthorpes arent really going to be of much help here im afraid you could give the warp blast hide them behind the fex and blast the hammerhead when your in range, or you could use them as synaptic links as your HT charges off at the tau ranks! up to you I guess, Ive used Zoanthorpes as synaptic links when I know my HT will be charging off (eg Battle at the camp Mission).
As for the gaunts, you have far to few to do any damage or survive a long amount of time, try hiding in cover and once your HT has charged a unit use that H2H as a screen and charge the gaunts up and join that assault, move from one assault to another from this point is all I can sugest and there will be very few of them left to do much damage so dont count on them winning the day!
As for biomorphs... give the m leaping it may be of some help, yet leaping ST gautns are preferable, but it may work.
Give the biovores poison and continually launch them into the firewarrior ranks they ignore the firewarriors saves and can cause serious damage to their ranks. Dont get bio a id and attempt to destrpoy the ha,,erhead it is too unlikely to work. Destroy the hammerhead with repeated VC shots or focussed warp blasts when your in range.
I would get genestealers if you can infiltrate, try to get them inot CC with broadsides and force them to make several saves hopoefully also ignoring their armour and verting to their inv. save.
With wehat you have got you are goin to have to hit the tau very fast! and very hard, Adavacne everything at the ta lines except the biovores launch their spores at the fire warriors.
Best of luck, your going to need it, this will be a real challenge! next thing you need to buy is troops get alot of gaunts, preferably leapers!
Tell us how it went, we'll have are fingers crossed for you! and may the hive mind favour your dice rolls
EDIT: Sorry about the bad typing in a bit of hurry, Im sure its still readable though!

You need to get the Tyrant to assault the suits as soon as possible.
The Carnifex should go toe to toe with the hammerheads and take them out.
Use the Zoanthropes to go after the commander with the strength 10 warp blast.
Uhmz in the tau player list he only has a total of 12 firewarriors . Almost every Tau player knows that for 400 pts you get 40 range 30 S5 shots wo are excellent against swarming hoards. But if hes gonna use such a expensive list I would suggest taking ALOOOOOOOOOT of models. Tau will shoot your hive tyrant and other big nids dead before they can even say 'a'. Your main goal is reaching CC because we all know nids rock and tau suck in CC.(hey that rhymes:p) Anyway take out the hammers ASAP they can fire big ordeance blasts and his suits will probaly shoot at your hive. Altough like most of us here we dont say you are gonna win that way but if yo are gonna lose make sure he had alot of trouble doing so!
However with that statement out of the way, I would say listen to ArchonBjorn. He has a really good tendency to not say stupid things and give bad advice.Learn from yesterday.
Live for today
Hope for tomorrow
Um, weren't You the Tau player, Railgunboy? =)
Similar thread in Tau forum... And I've posted a few strats for the Tau against the 'Nids there, check them out and plan on countering them! =)
You can just say You're a Tau player looking for ways to beat Your Tyranid opponent, were all friendly here. (Y)
If You happen to be his opponent, just posting on his nick, I suggest registering Yourself... It's not that much of a bother, especially considering how much use You can get out of Librarium Online!
Note on the Tau Commander in Crisis: Please, do take the Flamer! Um, wait a moment... In this game it might actually come in handy, considering that there are no Leaping units around. Then again, the only units it really works against are the Spines (You really want to kill these, right?), the 'Stealers (a bit more worthy target, but leaves You all too close to them even with Jetpack assault move) and the 'Vores (You want to go kill them on the other side of the board?). Better to kit the Crisis with twin Plasma to deal with the Tyrant and Carnifex.
Considering this was IIRC a tournament, I would suggest easing on the HS choices... Both of Your composition scores will be pretty crap.
Of course, if only winning matters... Even then the Tyranid isn't doing too good a job IMO, since I prefer far more numerous lists since I find Tyranids more effective swarming, and thus wouldn't spend quite that many points on my HS.
Biovores (with Poison) are an essential choice against Tau... Though perhaps not necessary in this case considering the low amount of Firewarriors and lack of Kroot.
Zoans ok, but against Tau I would probably leave at home to pay for more Gaunts (especially Leaping ones)... Then again, they're another target to draw Plasma and Railgun fire and can decimate battlesuits with relative ease once in range and if they hit.
Winged Tyrant with full statline Biomorphs (including EnhSen), 2x ScyTal, Warp Blast.
Carnifex with ScyTal + VCannon or 2x VCannon, depending on the desired reliability for affecting enemy vehicles... Vehicles priority targets, but these should also come in handy shooting at the battlesuits, considering one failed save from these is all it takes to remove a suit from action. =)
Spinegaunts... You're just trying to get cheap troops, right? I'd much prefer Leaping Gaunts to engage the FW quickly... The CC will block LOS to the battlesuits behind it, restricting their targets to TMCs only. Then again, the two Hammerheads could still fire over it at pretty much anything they wish (except those hiding behind the TMCs). And on the other hand, there aren't that many targets that would require the CC screen in this list (mainly the 'Stealers).
'Stealers will do in those nasty suits, unless they get shot to bits which is more than likely. Unless You get lucky, get to infiltrate close by, and then just sic the 'Stealers with their suit-openers on the hapless Tau.
Hard to say if I'm making any sense... The Tyranid lists is against my fluff-based sensibilities in regards Tyranids, and as such I do not like it very much. However, in this game, against the similarly poorly-built Tau, they just might work.
As it shows, I don't like either list very much... The lack of Troops being the biggest reason. Armies don't fight with their vehicles, aircraft and special units, but with the simple infantry without whom warfare wouldn't be possible (since only the infantry is capable of doing the most important task, taking and holding ground). That's why I prefer lists with more emphasis on a more "realistic" approach to the ratio of different unit types, not the minimum amount of troops to put the points into HQ, E and HS.
And getting tired... Maybe I shouldn't be commenting on lists when tired. ^_^;;;;;
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
