how am i supposed to consistantly beat my friend who plays as necrons? between the necron lord and wraiths in CC and all of the guys i work so hard to kill just standing back up, i cant figure out what i can do to really beat him. i've only played him twice and we each won a game but the first one was probably jsut because he was really inexperienced. does anyone have any ideas for how to lay down enough fire so that a fair number of them actually stay on the ground?

Well the first game(which you beat me)we were playing on my table. Which is about twice as long as Colin's, so you had me basically destoryed by the time I got in range. Also I failed my WBB roll the first time you laid down my Destroyer Lord.

Right, use Starcannons, Reapers, and yuo could use EML or Bright Lances to get rid of WBB. Use an Avatar, stick it in a unit of Scorpions/Storm Guardians and just bog down the Wraiths. A Scorpion Exarch with Scorpion Claw would be good too. Banshees would be excellent, but they may have trouble wounding/surviving.
Try Mind War, if you want, to take out the resurection orb, you'll need some luck though.
Falcons are good when you give teh Holo-Fields, Spirit Stones and a Starcannon. The Pulse Laser is also excellent due to multiple armour & WBB ignoring shots.
Cheap Vypers are good. Just a Vyper with a Starcannon will be very effective.
You cannot win, for to fight us is to give us power.
I used to play a friend with my Eldar a while ago against his Necrons. A basic list for killing marines can get it done, but it helps to have a few minor adjustments. Reapers are one of the best ways to get rid of his destroyers. I prefer Banshees over scorpions in the assaults, you'll get more wounds past them if they can't take saves, and I am not sure (its been a while) but I was under the impression they don't get WBB saves against power weapons.
The only other strong suggestion I can come up with is try and isolate his units and eliminate them one at a time, preferably too far away from anything which could grant a WBB roll.
Games Workshop is the Wal-Mart of hobby products, except for the low prices. The lack of respect and profit mongering is there in spades.
Fight them as you would fight Marines. Necrons are essentially Marines who shoot harder. and are slower in close combat. Starcannons, Brightlances, Dark Reapers, Rangers, and Wraithlords are effective. (When aren't Wraithlords effective? ) Necrons' fire is very painful, but very short ranged. They are capable of astonishing speed, but they are always down on numbers with a speed-oriented list.
Necrons do not like ordnance weapons, as "We'll Be Back" doesn't work if a model doesn't have another one of its type nearby.
Necrons phase out. Ignore the monolith, ignore the C'Tan, Ignore the Pariahs and the Tomb Spyder. Make sure you kill off as many explicitly Necron units as quickly as possible. If anyone of the above-mentioned Big-Nasties is being fielded, chances are he or she has left herself open to phase-out.
Also, not to call your Necron opponent a cheater, but make sure you are both familiar with the facets of the We'll Be Back rule. (I play Necrons, and I didn't figure out all of the rules for a while. When I got them down, WBB didn't seem so amazingly unstoppable after all.) If you are both already familiar with the rule, then ignore this paragraph. ^_^
Play to your strengths, not your opponent's. You have speed and flexibility over the Necrons. Use them effectively and you can make the Necrons look slow and confused.
WHFB: Dwarfs || WH40k: Imperial Fists, Necrons || WM/H: Trollbloods || BFG: Necrons
To make sure everyone knows Im not bending the rules next time we get together I will let you read and I will explain how my stuff works so you know Im not being sneaky. (Y) Oh and I just learned the my scarab swarms cant use the WBB rule. Though it doesnt matter because when we played they didnt do anything to help me win. They just died before I could get to you. Just getting that up into the air.

heh, thx to me, i've read all the armies codices, and i know what everyarmy can do and has, well most of it.
best thing to know is...
know your enemy, you can win a thousand battles.
anywho like others have alrdy said, kill them as if marines, juss a lil tweak, i will not list what to use.. for other people have alrdy done that. The main thing though, is to control fire, know what to shoot at first.
Wraiths are a big threat, BUT, you mass them, they will fail, and better yet, you anhilate the whole squad, its good night for them......
brings me memories... wraiths dieing to the BS 2 ork sluggas. MWHAHA
