Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I'm seriously considering a harlequin army for a couple reason.
The first and mian is that's it's a small army and I love to convert. So this way I can extensively convert my army with out getting bogged down with alot of models.
Secondly, I love using the underdog. My first army was DE and it took me a while but I got used to them and do well with them. Following my DE my second army was a Deathwing army, this was a great army and highly suggest it. The only reason I don't like it as much as my DE is because I found in order to win you have to take a shooting point of view, which didn't appeal to me. So I'll keep my DW record quiet.
So Basically I figured I've played both ends. I've learned how to play while being horribly out numbered, and I've been on the other end with good close combat capabilities but will die quickly in fire fights.
First I should let you know that's I'm a good loser and am quite comfortable with losing with my friends (other people think they're amazing and try to rub it in too much after winning).
So I guess I'm asking you if you think I'm worthy. I'd scowered EO for all their harlequin info, but due to them being underconstruction I can only get access to their articles.
Strangely enough I see Harlequins as a mix of DE and DW. Why you ask? Well with deathwing you're horribly outnumbered, and with DE you excel in close combat, but will fall quickly.
I'm asking for tactics advice....whatever you'd think would help me. And It's also really unfortuneate that the harlequin subfolder is so small. It doesn't even have a second page!
And I have so many questions. but I'm sure someone can help me.
I know I'll have venoms for transporting all my troops. But can someone maybe post a list 1000 pt. list that'll be fairly effective. So far I think my only options is the mandator two troops with a venom each. I think with upgrades I got it to 250pt per squad. Which leaves only 500 for HQ and goodies.
"only their articles"; have you got the Beta army list? If not, it's at http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40k/eld.../harlequins.pdf
And ask questions, we'll be glad to answer.
You don't need 500pts for HQ and goodies. In addition to that Troupes-Venom set up, I take a Great Harlie, Solitaire (with his own Venom), and Shadow Seer as follows:
1 Great Harlequin (60) with a Harlequin's kiss (10), Dread Mask (30), power weapon (10), plasma (2) and haywire (3) grenades, and a D-Field (25) = 140 points
1 Shadow Seer (70) armed with a Harlequin's Kiss (10), a Dread Mask (30) and plasma (2) and haywire (3) grenades = 115 points
1 Solitaire (90) armed with a Harlequin's Kiss (10), Riverblades (15), a Dread Mask (30), D-field (25) and plasma (2) and haywire (3) grenades = 175 points
That way they can all deal with anything
And 250pts per troupe!!?? What are you buying them?
Well, I think I bought them something like:
6 harlequin troupe
w/ 2x power weapons
w/ 2x fusion Pistols
one upgraded to leader w/ another power weapon
think it comes out to: 241 pts.
Yeah, I had the experimental codex and after reading your reaction you got me thinking that maybe I am spending too many points on troops. Should I drop some goodies? I'll probably drop the leader upgrade and his PW. that'll save me 18 pts. Out of curiosity what do you consider a fairly standard troop squad?
Also do you find that you do alot of fleet of footing? If so would you suggest I drop my two fusion pistols? While I played my DE I found I was always fleet of footing to make sure I could assault. What I don't want happening is me wanting to use my fusion pistols and then finding out I wasn't in range to assault.
And what are effective ways of dealing with tanks? I don't want to have to take like 3 DJ's with brightlances because they'll probably be walking the whole game, and will be easy to get pick off for enemyfire.
You're talking to someone who's not actually played harlequins, but likes to theorise. So much of this may not work exactly.
As you included the venom I take my comment back to a large extent. That does take quite a chunk of the points off. But also gives you a handy fusion gun weapon platform, so I'd drop them. To deal with tanks, send along a character (or just a troupe leader) with haywire grenades, to buy them for every squad gets pricey.
Also regarding the fusion pistols, if you're used to fleet of footing anyway, then definitely drop them, coz you'll stick to what you know and not use them.
Keep the extra power weapon/kiss option open. Any kind of bonus attacks is helpful, but a troupe leader is not worth Riverblades or something similar.
And I'd give out plasma grenades. It's vital that harlies don't leave anyone to hit back, so the reset to Initiative order is a godsend, unless you're facing other Eldar in which case things'll be even. But they're a nice insurance policy.
Drop the venoms! (xcept maybe the solitaire one if your going that route)
Venoms are so weak and with harlies ignoring cover, and fleet footing (which you wanna do all the time considering your shooty stuff is poor)
Death jesters are invaluble, really! Brightlances are my personal favorite, (anyone see any point in firepikes???)
Harlies really need to be tailored to fit the army their facing, because their hideously fragile. Obviously if you play in a group your likely to know what your up against, whereas if you want to play in tournaments, and are not there just to look good, then harlies can be a pain to command.
I would recomend either going for the army that takes on hordes (scatter lasers, kisses, hawk talons, missile launchers) or marine smash facery (starcannons, brightlances, missile launchers, power weapons, fusion pistols)
seing as my local GW may as well be called Ultramarine Kindergarden i would tool up for the latter.
My harly army is all mounted.
1 squad of mimes
1 shadow seer
in one venom
1 squad of harlies
in the other venom
2 death jesters (standing within 6" so that they have to shoot the lord)
works very well. i usually (50%) get a first turn assault.
Question to BFTrick: I may be being really dumb, but why use mimes instead of another harlies squad? if your not infiltrating (obv. cant with seer and venom) then surely there is no benefit, they just have fewer options for same price?
or are you using mime rules different to CJ 44?
also, i tried using a mounted army, sounds sound, but wouldn't your army get the hell blown out of it if the oponent gets first turn?
nice idea with the wraith lord/ death jesters, I missed that entirely.
The mimes were corrected in a later CJ, they cost 10 pts.
Hive Fleet Furi Kuri 32/21/4
Tomb Kings: 8/5/2
Im in ur Halo, killin ur covernantz
bleh im not using the updated rules, so they basically are normal harlies.
can i find the updated mime rules anywhere? i'd like to see their stats
