Well there are sure to more posts to follow, that will better outline the ways in which nids rock. But for me, they are fun to paint, and to play.Originally posted by Daniosis750@Dec 17 2004, 164

I mean what player doesn't like to watch his oppenent mow through half his army and responed with something like "haha thats ok, we'll make more!!!" Granted this alone won't will any touries but I play for fun first.
That said, some DE and Chaos players might argue they are CC gods, but when it boils down to it (when played correctly) you can't beat nids in CC.
Bad things you got a lot of models both to paint and carry around, a hormies get stuck in foam easy. Tacticaly not much shooting, so what you do have you have to make count, ie. HT, Zoan's, and 'Fexs.
just my opinion though.....
The hive has a place for all, the biomass is all. Ware to those who fail to see the power that is the hive fleet. Take solace for those who fall to the hive are not lost, just changed for the better.
hmmm good point, what are the nids like at shooting for a start? do they have any good weponry? :hmm:

'nids rule, but i'm slightly bias . Tau ok, but in tau vs. 'nids, nids own 'cuz tau SUK @ cc. Of course, if u like shooty armies, den u betr go w/ da tau, 'cuz 'nids got practicly NO shooting ('cept VC) and they will DIE in a shooty battle.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> They will shoot you and cut you up and step on the pieces and burn them and assemble the ashes and shoot them again and grind them into sand and scatter the sand into the sea and boil the sea away and gather the hardened remains and melt them into a rock and shoot the rock and burn what's left and launch the remains into the sun and...

Tyranids are horde and CC and Tau are very shooty with horrable CC.
Tau and nids are two total opposites. Nids cant shoot, and Tau can be beaten in CC by Stephen Hawking (that guy alone would make half the army run home crying). I myself play nids beause of 3 reasons:
1. I like outnumbering the enemy
2. I like beating Berzerkers in CC
3. I like running faster than a speeding bullet
Hive Fleet Furi Kuri 32/21/4
Tomb Kings: 8/5/2
Im in ur Halo, killin ur covernantz
Important Note: The Tyranids will be getting their 4thEd Codex next. Exact date unknown, "next summer" being direct quote from a GW company source (Steve P., Marketing Manager, IIRC). Thus any suggestions we give You in regards to Tyranids might see some changes, and it might be advisable to start with Tau and take another look at the Tyranids once the new Codex and models are out.
Note that the current Tyranid models will remain playable (though the effectiveness of any glued/pinned bioweaponry/biomorphs might change), and that the plastic Gaunts and Warriors are extremely unlikely to change.
As has been said, the Tyranids and the Tau are exact opposites... Except that while there are a couple of decent shooting options for the Tyranids, the Tau only have one semi-decent CC option, the Kroot.
I myself suggest choosing the army You simply like better... I myself chose Tyranids because I like spiky, teethy critters eating everything in their way, not because of any modeling or gaming aspects.
As has been said, model-wise the biggest drawback of Tyranids is that they are essentially a swarm army, which means lots of models. They might be expensive to get, but not necessarily if You get them second-hand... I'm getting 3 more Warriors, an extra Biovore, another Zoanthrope and a bunch ScyTal + RenClw tomorrow, unpainted and unassembled, for half the price I would've paid from the store.
The scariest prospect is probably painting them: Lots of near-identical models (Gaunts) to paint can get a bit daunting, and is one of the main reasons why my army isn't quite finished yet, even after having the vast majority of models for over a year! ^_^;;;;
Ruleswise... Every army can theoretically beat every other army, so I don't really see that as a hindrance.
Of course, the Tau and Tyranids being such opposites, I might suggest that You get both of the respective Codexes and a gift certificate for Your present. You could read the Codexes during the Christmas holidays (Any boring trips to visit relatives? ), and once You've made up Your mind go and exchange Your gift certificate for the appropriate Battleforce box or particular models You have in mind.
One thing to note is that whether Tau or Tyranids, it is usually best to make up an army list, post it here on the appropriate forums for feedback, modify, post, modify, etc until You have a list You feel comfortable with, and only after You have the finished list start buying and assembling the models.
Tyranids especially can be assembled "wrong" in so many ways that it's not really even funny...
Of course, You might get some use out of even the most outrageous biomorph/bioweapon combinations, but the sad fact remains that some of them are rather more effective than others... That is why it is important to get the basic grasp of the rules first, before assembling any of the models.
For Tau this only really applies to the vehicles, Crisis and Broadside suits... And You can easily deal with the situation using magnets as described in the sticky topic located in the Tau forum.
For Tyranids, You might consider magnets for TMC or even Warrior weaponry, but definitely not biomorphs since the bits are simply too fiddly. And Gaunts are right out of the equation... Of course, if You really want to make Your Gaunts magnetized to exchange weapons, go right ahead!
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
Tyranids are your basic CC army. Tau are your basic Shooty army. again, as said before, they are total opposites. Tau are expensive for troops while Tyranids are cheap for troops. Tau and Tyranids are almost identical for HQ apart from CC vs. Shooting: They can be cheap or expensive.
Seeding Swarm Deathbringer: 16/5/13
Witch Hunters: Currently in development.
hmmm choices choices eh well lets see, can someone give me an example of a nid shooty army, my opponent i will come up against is Eldar any suggestions for that? and could you guys post me your army lists please (Y) just so i know round about what i should be aiming for, and it seems that Snipers are a nids worst enemy am i correct?

 I have to say not to be nids. i was going to start building an army but i'm going to wait until this summer to start them because they're coming out with a new nid codex and new models for everything but gaunts. i bought the codex so i could start learning some rules but i don't want to buy any models because in a year they'll look antique. i was on my way to buy a box of gaunts and a tyrant when i read about the new codex so i just said screw it
