Welcome to Librarium Online!
During last tournament I've found that my Winged Tyrant could loose the warp blast and enhanced senses. I was able to fire it 2 times in 3 games and all of them missed(unlucky). The point is, the Tyrant shooting means enemy also can shoot at him resulting in wounding or killing him. During one game against Whichhunters, I tried to shoot with warp blast at Exorcist. I was barely out of range. My fex managed to only immobilize it. Resulting 5 wounding hits on Tyrant!!!. If I didn't have Warp Blast, I wouldn't try to shoot at exeorcist( I would place my Tyrant on the opposing side of my deployment zone). So I will save around 30 points on Warp Blast and enhanced senses.
What are Your opinnions on this issue?
Green Tide will consume You all!
I wasn't aware that having Warp Blast forced you to walk up into los of an Exorcist.
Next time don't make yourself visable to the str8 ap1 d6 shot tank?
Always take WB.
You misunderstand me.
Incident with Exorcist was my fault. The poin is, that I was able to use warp blast 2 times in 3 games. These 28 points should have been spent on gaunts. Extra shooting provided by warp blast isn't needed, becouse You could kill the only models that were in assault range.
By the way I won this Tournament and my army performed well, even if my opponent managed to kill my flying tyrant(happen 2 times on 3 games).
Green Tide will consume You all!
Its a personal choice, but any HT I field always has WB as well as PS.
WB gives the HT the ability to not only ap power armor, but also pop a land raider at range pretty easily. Penetrating hits to boot vs the VC and its glances.
People who don't know the power are not happily suprised when marines die to a HT who doesn't have a visable gun. The fact that you can focus it is nasty. Pairing it on a walking HT with a VC and ST is great for versatility. It rivals my Dual VC Carnifex in tank popping ability.
As for comparing the cost to how many extra spinegaunts. Spinegaunts can't pop a land raider or a monolith. I could try to compare each biomorph in my entire army to how many spinegaunts each is worth, doesn't mean much.
Its a Your Milage May Vary situation with WB, but my experience is the power ALONE earns 100-250 pts a game.
I generally use warpblast to soften up what ever im going to assualt, ie its a bonus, its is a handy anti tank, deamon prince weapon, and nice against marines, but if you got a winged hivetyrant, on the second turn you should be looking at firing the WB and assualting what ever is left of your target anyways
if you want a hivetyrant to be effective shooting, get rid of the wings, and give it dual venom cannons or something.
Army of the heavens, my army waits in hell
To battle on the earth, for all the souls who fell
Same here... Personal experience is that the WB + ES pays at least points back in most games, and being extremely useful in others ('Lith, C'tan, Daemon Princes, Greater Daemons, Broadsides, etc).
Of course, CC is the priority, the WB is simply there to soften targets beforehand or deal with those CC won't be advisable against. Never stay in the open on purpose just to shoot the WBlast, unless You can be assured that You can still assault into safety if need be.
It might be annoying having to refrain using something You have paid points for, but sometimes its the better option.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
I also prefer the warp blast, as it's really nice to actually do something the turn you deepstrike, instead of just hanging around, waiting for next turn
The sheer versatility of a WB armed winged 2X ST tyrant is just too good to pass up...
