Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm new to W40K and have just started adding to the BFM nid force. Here is what I have sop far. Input please.
1- Hive Tyrant
3- Warrior Brood
1- barbed strangler
1- Biovore ( w/ lots of mines thks BFM)
I'm thinking of getting the gant box and Carnifex next.
do NOT give monsterous creatures rending claws, they ignore armour saves any way so it's pointless, give it scything talons.
if you are reading this signature, then you are wasting you're time, and i am wasting my time by writing it, so run along now, jimmy, run along.
I'd give all of the Warriors the same weapon, preferably Deathspitters or Vennom Cannons. You deffinitely need more gaunts before you get a carnifex. Maybe even 2 boxes!
Purge all the heretics,
Kill the alien scum,
Suffer not the unclean to live,
And have a beer when you're done.
I've been looking at the mutable genus section in the codex and I am going to make a new warrior species to be able to get as many venom cannons as possible. The barbed stangler is the pits.
The Warrior " Fardeath" Species w/
Adrenal Gland WS+1
Enhanced Senses BS+1
Toxin Sacs S+1
Adrenal Gland In+1
More gaunts on the way.
OK the Battle Force box and a Tyrant are probably the best start.
The fully tooled Tyrant with ST, VC & Warp blast is the best walking tyrant IMHO. I would recomend that you help it out with 2 guard.
Warriors setup depend on what you will be fighting. Keep in mind that most 'nid weapons have stupidly short range. The only respectable 'nid weapons are VC & deathspitter. The VC being far superior. I would recomend that you make all your Warriors leaping with ST & RC. Leaping wariors get fleet of claw & provide synapse your gaunts & 'stealers
Lictors can be fun, but are a bit expensive in low points games.
Small broods of 'stealers are good. Though a word of caution that very small broods only have to loose 2 and you will be making morale rolls. I suggest adding 3 more. Remember 'stealers make saves like regular troops not "all by yourselves" rolls (unless in synapse range).
Tyranid armies are swarm armies, you want big numbers. Most armies just can't kill large numbers of 'nids fast enough. Once tied up in combat your slow nasty creatures move up safer. Guants will bulk out your army cheaply. Termagaunts are crap. Make the much cheaper Spinegaunts, the walking gaunts with spinefist.
I also strongly recomend the your get hormagaunts or some other leaping variant. The 12' charge is great and the 4' attack range will get most of the brood their attacks.
Biovores are great. The only problem is their randomness. One biovore will probably just frustrate you. You want 2 or 3 for maximum randomness.
P.S. this should have been posted in the army list forum.
P.P.S. Read the pinned newbie FAQ at the top of the forum to get an idea how the units work.
Welcome to the Swarm!
Hive Tyrant: As has been said, don't bother with RenClws for TMCs... You get precious few RC parts anyway, they're better saved for CC Warriors and Raveners.
Always make Your Tyrant using the Mutable Genus rules at the back of the Codex! It will be much more effective and cheaper than a front-Codex Tyrant.
Warrior Brood As You noticed, no point in BStrangler.
I would not spend points on AdrG for shooty Warriors... Here's what mine usually look like:
ScyT + DSpitter, 1 in brood ScyT + VCannon
I always field Warriors purely optimized for either CC or shooty, I simply find them more effective that way.
Lictor: Fun, but not really that useful in small games due to their cost.
Genestealers: Solid, just take a look at the newb FAQ to get some pointers in using them.
Termagants: Macragge, right? Once You buy Gaunts boxes don't bother with these, go for Spinegaunts instead... Since Gaunt shooting sucks, most choose the cheapest sucker.
Biovore: As said, just one won't be doing much... I suggest at least two, preferably three. Usually best with Poison and Bio-Acid, no need to bother with Frag.--- You need two Gaunt boxes... A Gaunt brood of 8 models is worth nothing, but with two You get 16 Leaping Gaunts and 16 Spinegaunts, which is pretty good.I'm thinking of getting the gant box and Carnifex next.
I usually strive to field two broods of Leaping Gaunts, size ranging from 16-24.
