Question. My next army is down to Iyanden/Blood Angels/Alien Hunters (when it comes out).
I know that a BA codex is due out soonish and that word is another Eldar (with new models?) and then there is faint markings in the new ulebook for Alien hunters.
Can anyone give me dates and any fanatical Iyaden player convince me.. I need convincing. The costs, the points the confusion over the aspects.
I've played Necrons, fun and old marines... BUT! now I am looking to buy an army where I only get about 1500 pts not much to paint (Iyanden! and I only get what I want/need and no more. So my 3 choices. No horde, preferably good guys and not many people ahve and trust me where I am no one has BA, little kids will be stupid and get AH and out of 2 eldar players one has 2 wraithlords and is no Craftworld at all.
So spirit seers worth it?
Is that WD article on the Iyanden army worth it?
With the ned codie is newmodels going to be a problem, I donrt want to end up buying old terminators when new ones come out.. you know what Im saying... poseable.
Well, Iyanden is *very* expensive to collect, £35 for 1 Troop Choice, and you'll be buying at least 2 of those squads if you want to be fluffy. Spiritseers are not particularly good, IMO, you pay 8 extra points for extra Leadership, even though your already part of a fearless unit. The extra Wraith control range is all fine and good, but I prefer to be safe and buy each squad a Warlock anyway. There aren't a lot of models you need to buy, but you'll find yourself drastically outnumbered (more so than Necrons) in every match, unless you are fighting against Saim-Hann, or another Bike army. If you do choose Iyanden, then good luck!
You cannot win, for to fight us is to give us power.
Of the three codices, the new Blood Angels one will likely come out first. The new Eldar one will likely be out in 2006, as the Tyranids are getting the next of the xenos' codex re-writes.
Instead of gushing about the Iyanden, I'll give you the cons:
Yes, Iyanden are expensive, at $50 per troop squad, minimum.
Yes, Iyanden are hard to paint well, being bright yellow
Yes, you will always be outnumbered by a good margin, unless you're playing against Harlequins
Yes, Iyanden are very beatable once your opponent discovers the trick to it.
Yes, Iyanden are more tactically inflexible than all the other Eldar
Yes, you will lose (a lot) and still be accused of being a cheese-monger (a lot)
Now if the Alien Hunters' Codex is as cool as the other two Ordos' codices, then it will be very cool, and the Blood Angels are easily the coolest of the Space Marines. In fact, I have a couple of BA tactical squads that I am converting and painting for coolness' sake. (Additionally, given the elite-heavy nature of the long-lived Blood Angels, you can create a BA force that is numerically small and is still perfectly fluffy.)
Why do I play Iyanden? I love the fluff. I love the color-scheme. I love how every battle with them feels like a heroic last stand.
WHFB: Dwarfs || WH40k: Imperial Fists, Necrons || WM/H: Trollbloods || BFG: Necrons
Jeez guys, your being so great. I do love a good last stand. Yellow would be hard to paint, I'd ned to learn to paint in more than a single coat.
But in New Zealand, where I live a single squad of 5 Wraithguard is $125 and supply is low, I dont have a local GW but I can easily order in from the local toyshop. There is also another hobby store about 10mins out of town. I love this place.
Thanks guys '06 is along time so I guess I'll decide by Alien hunters when that comes out. I was hoping it would be soon because of the scratchings in the rulebook, but, if not I may start buying Iyanden.
Thanks alot Nebulas and Quickasawink.
