Hi i was wondering what elite unit should i get most?
Flayed Ones, Immortals, and PAriahs?
I heard that flayed ones should make up most of your elites choice, but i wanted to add the others in as well.
I want to make an army of 1500, or 2000 points, but mainly 1500.
Many people will discourage this opinion but i suggest taking pariahs. They are excellent for taking down those nasty 2+ save monsters and marines. They can completely destroy a squad of Zoanthropes.
They have a gauss blaster on top of their close combat performance too!
Many people will complain about pariahs.
"they only have one attack!"
But this ONE attack is at S5 and ignores EVERY POSSIBLE save! this in an army with only 4 weapons maximum in and army which can pierce a 2+ save!
"They don't get a WBB!"
So? not a single tyranid or eldar model does. They still have the 'necron save' and a relatively high toughness!
"They only have one wound!"
how is this different from every other Necron model? For 36 points 1 wound is more than enough!
"they're too expensive!"
36 points for a 24" gauss blaster, an attack at high strength which ignores EVERY save, the ability to reduce leadership and cause psykers to test, they are fearless, they have an excellent save, and they have a high leadersip. all this for ONLY 36 points?
I suggest a squad of 4-5 with a Lord for maximum "points killed:points used" ratio.
Summery: you should definately use pariahs
Necron will stand for eternity.Their race has survived aeons by trading their very souls for metal bodies. Now, they will live on through eternity and will vanquish all life from our universe. For they are Necron. Flesh is weak. The machine will rise!
Bah, get Immortals!!! Must have 10, best troop to VoD!

Flayed Ones are good when you're facing an army where close combat is inevitable (orks, tyranids, space wolves, khorne beserkers, etc...). With the same cost as a Warrior, there is no reason NOT to take them against close combat armies. Certain armies will always be able to engage you in close combat no matter how lucky you get in your first few shooting phases. That's when plan B is your Flayed Ones.
Immortals are a good retinue for a Lord with Veil of Darkness. Veil of Darkness tends to be effective in an army that also uses a Monolith to constantly recycle Necrons out of Close Combat and to parts of the line which need reinforcement. This tactic can work against slow moving close combat armies. Immortals are also godly against armies with 4+ armor saves. I almost never use VoD or Immortals when fighting Space Marines though since they can't armor pierce them.
Pariahs are great when used in conjunction with Flayed Ones, although I would only take a squad of 4 Pariahs to minimize the risk of phase out. If you use Flayed Ones, consider taking Pariahs also. The Pariahs are great against Terminators on a charge, but you need to make sure the Necron Lord is with them to augment their poor number of attacks and help absorb damage with his phase shifter. A lot of times I give those power fist (str 8 wont instant kill the lord) attacks to my lord instead of letting a Pariah die, and hope I roll a 4+ with his invulnerable save.
4 Pariahs + Necron Lord + Charge = 12 warscythe attacks, 6 of which will probably hit, and 4 of those 6 will wound. 4 dead terminators on a charge is AVERAGE. Pariahs are pretty useless if you don't get the charge though, so make sure you get it.
