Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm tryign to get more of my co-workers involved with this warhammer 40k. SOme are pretty interested.
my question here is what (In your opinion) makes the Tau such a great army.
how the models look?
what makes the tau so cool?
because the tau have fluff, and units unlike any other represented in 40k.
they are unique, because they combine firepower WITH mobility. there is tactical skill in using them, you don't just field as many big guns as you can. they are also fun to play. i like them as much as my orks, which is saying something about the magnetism of the models and fluff.
Yeah, this is excellent! TY Angel of Rust!
Graktoof the vile, victor of 1000 battles, partial credit to 1000 more, and sore loser about the other 8000...
Access to the best tank (imo) the Hammerhead, a superb transport unit (Devilfish) stealth suits, which are very, very nice, and also the guns. Tau have the strongest guns on their base troops, and whilst the individual grunts aren't very good shots, when they do hit, they hit hard. Plus they can do my favourite style of play, mounted infantry, very easily, and very well. A mobile Tau force is a nightmare for many armies to face, especially those that revel in close combat. If I keep moving sensibly, you really aren't going to be able to lock my squads in CC till i've shot the hell out of you first. And the kroot are ace for counter-charging. Leading your enemies back towards a juicy kroot squad, with some kroot hounds in is a very good way of at least slowing CC monstrosities like Khorne or some of the loyalist SM's.
Also I personally really, really like the models. The Tau are a very 'clean' designed army.
But the best way to get more people to play, is to let them chose an army they like the look of, proxy up a force if you don't have the models yourself/within your gaming group, and play.
Thats the way that most of my friends that play got into this money sucking addiction
the proxy thing is a good idea that is what I did wiht a bunch of difffernt things.
I was tryin to capture the feel for them. what makes poepl want ot play them.
I think I play them because Tau can fight in a way that my Marines and WH's don't : Namely that I can play with a highly mobile shooty army, backed up by the really rather scary Railgun. My other forces are much more CC based, and Tau make an interesting change.
They're not as 'easy' to use as marines, as they don't have that lovely statline, so perhaps they aren't the best army to start on, but they pack a punch, and have some great units - Pathfinders rock, gun drones make a great suicide squad to tie up enemies for a while, and pulse rifles hurt when they hit.
Plus they have Kroot. I mean honestly, who doesn't love the little savages?
I like Tau, because Ive always been interested in Warhammer 40k, however I never really wanted to playing humans. They are over played, IMHO, and, all the other races reek of science fictionized fantasy races.
The Tau are truly, the first Civilized Alien Race in Warhammer 40,000. The Tyranids are pretty alien, sure, but, they arent really like people, more like bugs. Eldar as freaking Elves. Squats are Halflings. Orks, well. Duh. The only thing 40K doesnt have, is Dwarves.
Another reason I like the Tau, is also fluff wise. They arent evil like 95% of every other living thing in the 40k universe. They are peaceful. They dont like fighting. They would much prefer a peaceful solution to their issues, instead of simply resolving things by war.
And, another reason still I like them... is, even though they are peaceful.. they can kick royal ass when the time comes. They are THE BEST ranged army in the whole game. Theyre firepower is un-matched. And, theyre mobility is damn near the top as well.
From a gaming stand point... they fit my prefered gaming style. Superior Tactics threw superior firepower. Crisis Suits are powerful. They move out, blast things to peices, and swoop back into cover. Stealth Suits rain death on an enemy who cannot see them. Pathfinders use markerlights to guide Seeker Missiles, Railgun blasts, etc. Hammerheads, well, nuff said. They rock.
I love the Tau.
Most of the points have been clarified here, I'd say. ^_^ On top of it all, Tau models are some of the best I've ever seen out of GW. Kroot are awesome looking. Battlesuits rock. And the tanks are beautiful.
If any of your buddies like moving, shooting, and dislikes getting his hands dirty in CC, then Tau are about right. Their (fluff) ability to simply think outside the box, something humans rarely ever do, and find ways for a peaceful resolution (that Gue'la usually ignore, or think is unacceptable, just check the fluff! is simply amazing.
A peace-loving, blue-skinned, four-fingered, Element-based Casted, ultra technology wielding midget army?
Definitely cool. (Y)
They do have some kind of flash to them I agree.
I would have started the mmyself but per sonaly I found them too expensive.

The only thing that is stopping you from being what you can be is what you think other people think about you.
If you could say one thing to the world, what would it be?
