Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm tryign to get more of my co-workers involved with this warhammer 40k. SOme are pretty interested.
my question here is what (In your opinion) makes the Tyranids such a great army
look o the models?
why are the tyranids so cool to you?
Definatly the look of the units ^_^... they dont have that much fluff... also the monstrous creatures have awsome stats... and the flexability of the army... and mass! the army can be the biggest... unit wise... like spingaunts is only 5 pts a model... so ya ^_^ there you go
"Come children let us consume." Mother said. "May we grow ever more and destroy all that hinder us!"
And all her children went out to do her bidding
--Children of Hive Fleet Edimadra
Not played much, ie: rare.
Easy to paint.
Straight forward tactics, yet require timing/coordination/good guessing.
Numerous, the opposite of "all your eggs in one basket".
Cold, unfeeling, alien.
Facination with the entire Alien/Predator movie/comic series.
The unexpected, ie: Lictors, Biovores, Deep Striking, Leaping.
Someone has to be the bad guy/agressor. SM/IG player populations are pretty high, its nice not to be part of the herd.
No tanks to have to worry about. Large creatures able to take severe amounts of fire without care. ie: Sturdy, Durable, Reliable.
Difficult to make a "cheesy" or unfluffy army list. Most everything makes sense. Unlikely to hear cries of wah wah, more likely to hear groans of pain remembered when they hear they are playing Tyranids.
Can look very impressive on the table when compared to a smaller army. Big sense of unity and intimidation.
Models themselves are quite scary and look the part of the evil space critter.
Virtual immunity to psychology, pinning, morale, leadership etc. Makes for ease of play and rules lawyering. "They're pinned" "They don't care, roll" "Take a morale check for them" "They don't care, roll"
Fast aka finesse army.
Parts of the army are truthfully feared/hated by other players.
Flipping a tank over like a tonka truck.
Immunity to Necrons.
They are a massive eating alien race that has no number. They will worn down your planets defence untill it crumbles! Now, THAT is cool. And if they are "defeated" there is always some left to take over the mission of EATING you,
They got Big Creatures that can eat through anything that you can put against them. Though they fall from firepower.
Plus your normal troops are cheap and in the meantime very good. If they charge you get MANY attacks and upgradeing their Initiatve (ey, striking faster in CC) you should strike first of at the same time as many of the standard troops in the game.
Though take notice. If you rush your army against the enemies guns, you will loose a great number of troops, and you need them for your victory.
The fluff is very small for nids. However it makes it more interesting. When you read the nid fluff you inmidiatly think: how many bugs are out there, the humanity could stop the really nid core army?
I donñt think that´s the better
look o the models?
YESSSSSSS. the models looks very good. And if you are a ALIENS fan they can be the greatest. Another think: they are easy to convert and the conversion can look very nice
Our basic troops outrun bullets. I have played games where my enemy never got a single shot off and being slaughter to the last man by turn 3. You cant run, you cant hide, might as well shoot yourselves.

Im in ur Halo, killin ur covernantz
Run em down on a vespa scooter, you fooly kooly man.
"Fool, how can you hope to understand the might that is the Tyranid swarm?! All your life, you have been an individual with your own desires, ambition and skewed morality to be conveniently tossed aside as the situation changes.
The Tyranid has no concept of these things. The Great Devourer has come to this galaxy for only one reason: To fill it's biological imperatives. To feed, to survive... To evolve. The planets of this galaxy, like others before, shall be left as dead, barren wastelands where nothing will thrive.
For the life and biomatter consumed is not destroyed... It is used to build new creatures, the DNA incorporated into the Tyranid to make it stronger and more capable of holding it's own in this hostile universe. In this sense, anything consumed by the swarm shall live on forever!
Man spends years in training, requiring food, energy, training... A Tyranid creature hatches in a mere fraction of the time and is a vicious killer as soon as it clambers out of the reproductive geno-organs of the hive ship. When a man dies, he is gone, all the energy wasted... Whereas the Tyranid will simply devour it's dead and create them anew.
As the Tyranid arrives, it will swarm it's enemies with untold millions of creatures... Rippers, Gaunts and other smaller creatures exhausting the prey by their sheer weight of numbers. Genestealers and Lictors, skulking in the shadows of a world to be consumed. Bestial Carnifexes crushing armoured tanks and throwing them aside like toys, Zoanthropes blasting prey apart by channeling the power of the Immaterium, Biovores lobbing sacs of poison and acid. Skies darkened with broods of winged Gargoyles, snake-like Raveners writhing at astonishing speeds to tear into their prey... All of them directed by Warriors and the mighty Hive Tyrants which ensure that the will of the Tyranid reaches all.
These creatures still dwarfed by others, bigger, larger... From creatures the size of Imperial Baneblades, up to the gigantic spaceborne hiveships, many kilometres long and rivalling the largest battleships in the Imperial Navy.
A sea of rippling talons, claws, spines, teeth... Their inherent deadliness at close range matched by symbiotic creatures which hurl acid and poisons and spines and small burrowing creatures, any hits from these driving their victims mad with agony before the release of death.
Nothing shall stand before the swarm. Every obstacle will be overcome, the swarm evolving to become quicker, more resilient, more lethal against each new foe encountered. For each world that falls, the Tyranid becomes stronger.
The Tyranid shall prevail."
I could've come up with something new, but I felt this old post of mine would be perfectly adequate.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
ahh I do love th tyranids myself it was my second army I owned but the first one I ever played with (yes I owned an army Inever used and sold the mto by tyranids).
That was back before the codex or 3rd edition and I had lots of fun.
Wow, UZI that is nice. If you don't mind I would like to use this. My buddy plays guard and is always reading litanies during battle. This would give me something to prattle off back..???
The hive has a place for all, the biomass is all. Ware to those who fail to see the power that is the hive fleet. Take solace for those who fall to the hive are not lost, just changed for the better.
