Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ive been playing as the orks for afew years now and as of yet i havent found a single use for the 'Uge Choppa. When it comes to creating an army list i dont see the point in taking one instead of a power klaw.
The only feasible reason is the points issue but seen as both weapons make you strike last i think it is worthwhile to pay that little bit more so that when you do strike last it actually does something. A weapon that strikes last and the enemy still gets a save just seems wrong? The powerklaw also has the diversity to be able to deal with vehicles that little bit better.
I think if it counted as a power weapon instead would make it much more worthwhile. If not making the orks unbeatable .
What are your thoughts, does anyone on the boards use 'Uge Choppas?
(sorry if this has been posted before, im new and couldnt find the search option :blush
I have a nob or two with them, but mostly for modeling purposes. The 'uge choppa is actually more effective in the current rule set than previously, as the nob can't be picked out. This simple fact that a pklaw or 'uge choppa nob more often than not gets to swing.
On the plus side, the 'uge choppa is much cheaper in points than a pklaw, and still bumps up a nobs strength to a point where nurgle marines, necron lords, and wrathlords are less of a problem.
On the negative side, as you mentioned, they still get an armor save, and as it's a two handed weapon, you can't carry another hand weapon so you lose an attack. You can remedy that with a bionic arm, but than the total point cost starts to creep up back to pklaw level.
Its arguably a weapon that needs a little fine tuning rules wise, but it can be effective in the right place. Take a grot slaver, for instance. You can buy him a pklaw for x points, which doubles his strength, and makes his hits no-armor-save allowed. You can instead give him a 'uge choppa, which makes his strength only one less than the pklaw, but your enemy gets a 4+ save. Still for the point difference, here it's not such a bad deal.
I'd recommend trying one out on a nob for kicks and variety, and see what you think!
the 'uge choppa may not be the best weapon, but it's a bit cheaper.
it may not be quite worth it's cost, but it looks damn cool
you may not see many in tourny lists, bet hell, I use em anyway.
every nob in my feral orks army has one, and all I can say is, so far, so good.
