Does anyone ever feild 9 support weapons? I recently came accross 9 D-cannon platforms for a bargain and am wondering if it will make sense to ever use them all.
I've used a d-cannon once, but I think the cahnce of me using one again is slim.
They are hidiously vulnerabe to enemy firepower and only give a small blast template so are only likely to kill model, also as I suck at guessing range I'd often miss units completely. The high strength and low AP are good, but almost always overkill and this is more than countered by their 1/2 chance of missing.
They could be useful against vehicles, however and in cityfight whwere they can fire without being seen.
Unfortunately at 50 pts their just to likely to do nothing.
Vibrocannons are also well overpriced because they'll rarely be in a possition to do much damage (although if your play other Eldar an dthe put two vehicles near each other you can draw line of sight under them both but still hit them, and glancing hits are as good as you'll ever get against Eldar vehicles.
I'm sure their was another weapon but I erased it from my memory because it was so awful.
Should you use 9 D-cannons? No.
the uses of D-cannons are against certain opponents are very good, they are an underrated weapon. more useful against tanks definitely. you use them to pop the AV 14 nasties, or to hit everyone in open-topped vehicles (think how many orks fit into a battlewagon, and how scary templates are for them). also, when firing as a barrage, blast templates are considerably better,as three placed together can hit alot more.
however, you trade this for a heavy support choice, which can potentially be more useful your army.
my verdict is use a group of three or so (six if you got space), bust tanks first, then aim in the general direction of terminators, destroyers etc. works like a peach.
Yeah, this is excellent! TY Angel of Rust!

i agree more along the lines of applebone, cept i NEVER play a game without them. I find a nice peice of terrain in the middle of the deployment zone, and blast anything that comes within 24". its my perimeter of d00m.i think u are mistaken. d-cannons dont have to roll to hit. they are barrage weapons.this is more than countered by their 1/2 chance of missing.no need to guess range. All u have to guess is if the target is within your 24 inches, which is hardly a challenege.I suck at guessing range I'd often miss units completely.
<insert witty remark here>
Although there is a half chance of scattering wildly if you cannot see them. But you can roll the scatter dice so that its a half chance of hitting rather than a third chance....but it rarely works...
Well those are my pointless ramblings on the subject anyway....
I never used support batteries in my Eldar armies, simply because there is are so many heavy support choices that I would rather have. I don't think I've ever made an eldar army over 500 pts that didn't max out the heavy support choices.
I really am great, aren't I?
I would use them, since proxy games have worked out well for me, but the darn things are $35 bucks each... that's not even 2 points per dollar. I mean, COME ON.
