how in the hell do u fit rending claws on rippers? and how do u get that many rending claws?
You can mutate quite a lot of rippers due to their many wounds per base, then you use the weapon beasat mutation in order to give them rending claws. You can find the precise rules on page 37 of codex tyranids.
now if anyone does how do you represant your morphs on rippers? i havnt figured out a time worthy way to yet.
suggestions? or even better samples.
a good trick, get a cigarette lighter, and slightly warm up the flat base of the claw so that its fairly malleable. once done, push the base of the claw onto one of the sides of the ripper... it will melt into the cracks and look like its part of the model - with a huge talon out of the side of its head etc..
is rippers better than nurglings?
Rippers and Nurglings are the same except chaos usually can only have a limited amount of them. I believe one unit of nurglings per plague marine squad, unless you're playing a mutant army from EOT. Rippers can be mutated too, so i'd say they are a bit more useful due to options and lack of restrictions.
However, I believe nurglings compliment chaos better because of a lack of cheap units to tie up the enemy. Rippers/Nurglings are great on tieing up assault troops so they don't bug you're important units. More than one wych succabus with an agoniser has brought down my hive tyrant. Its even worse when wyches get into assault with the red terror...poor guy. He's more like the 'red scare' at that point.
Bah, forgot to mention something.
For the moding with the rending claws and ripper swarms. Could you have extra long saber tooth style teeth instead? I know its pushing it, but it could be argued that, due to there size and stature, long limbs would be combersome. That to get the same effect they have razorsharp teeth to better fit their profile and use. After all they eat everything on the planet during the last parts of a Tyranid invasion. Some things might need stronger teeth/jaws to get through. Worth a shot =)
Rending claw rippers are the only reason I would ever field a unit of rippers.
I like either giving them mandibles by gluing on an appropriate plastic piece to each side of their head, or else using the old style rippers. The latter just look like rending claw rippers.

im goign to try shapping 1.5mm plastic plate into mandebles like on the carnifex and glue them the the rippers head.
