Welcome to Librarium Online!
Are Raveners really worth it? Because using mutable genus, you can make a warrior with wings and scything talons and rending claws for 36pts, whilst with Raveners, it will cost 45pts for that. Also, you can buy adrenal glands for 3pts to balance out the Inititive and Weapon Skill, plus an extra 3pts for toxin sacs to increase str to match the Ravener's. Now thats 42pts, which is still 6pts cheaper than a Ravnener, and the Warrior now can move 12" and assault 6", so it can move as fast as a Ravener, have synapse and deepstrike, although you can't land in difficult terrain, but that really isn't much of a problem. Plus you can have a larger brood than raveners.
The one thing I found useful was to put Rending Claws and a Devourer on a Ravener... That way, it can shoot six Str 3 shots, then move into CC. But its rather expensive, and I don't think they are worth it. The points cost on them will probably be reduced in the next Codex or something...
Faced by rejection, no hope of acception,
Constantly thinking of destruction, never reminded of redemption.
Forgetting ressurection, seeing only frustration.
Pierced by a lethal injection, Bleeding from wounds re-opened, memories never mentioned,
Images never wanted, thoughts never summoned. Feelings fade away, most happiness freed from its cage. Broken from burdens, everything becomes a haze...

Raveners do have a strength: Their small brood size. This balances out the worse armour save, as shooting at such a ravager means that the enemy will have to waste a lot of firepower to overkill. Single raveners are also easier to hide than squads of warriors.
Since leaping warriors now get FoF, there is indeed few reason not to use these instead though.
On the other hand...it is rumoured that in the new codex raveners will get an enormous boost.
As ArchonAstaroth stated...
I only find Raveners useful in CC capacities due to their fragility... At least in CC they can hope to inflict casualties with a few lucky Rending hits.
However, at the same time Leaping Warriors do the same, much better:
Leaping Warriors with full CC Biomorphs, ScyT + RenC:
+ Better save
+ Better Str
+ Can have an additional Biomorph Enhancement, like FlsHks
+ Can vary bioweaponry to have LshWhps on a few models to decrease amount of enemy attacks
+ Cost less than Raveners
- Minimum Broodsize
- Less Attacks
Thanks to Leaping Warriors being Beasts, they gain Fleet and thus are on the average as fast as Raveners.
Comparing Leaping to Winged Warriors, Leaping are better: They're cheaper, and though they might not be as fast on the average they're fast enough to keep up with Gaunts and they can enter terrain which is a big issue. I for one don't see any point in expensive pure-CC creatures which can't engage enemy in terrain.
I do field Raveners from time to time, exactly the way AA said: In broods of a single Ravener each to act as fast and fragile spooks. 45pts isn't that much for a fast model which can take objectives and hold quarters, and has the potential to wreck any vehicle in the game except a Monolith.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
These are all good points, but the raveners do have one thing going for them: they get 4 rending attacks with RC & ST. I've always liked raveners thiugh, so I might be a littke bias.

Genestealers get shot
sometimes they make close combat
then they slice off limbs
