i would like to make an aspect army based off striking scropions, and swoopings hawks, oh and banshee's. these are the 3 main units. any idea how i can theme the army????
Check out Codex: Craftworld Eldar if you haven't already, as this containts the rules for the Biel-Tan Craftworld, which is the Craftworld that you'd want - they replace the Guardians in the army with the Aspect Warriors (i.e. the units you want are Troops).Originally posted by bonjordo@Feb 2 2005, 14:36

I, personally, don't like Banshees. I'd get 3x squads of Scorpions, a squad of Warp Spiders, and a squad of Dark Reapers and see if there're any points left over. However, that's just me, because I like those units a lot...
Check out the codex, it'll help you out.
I would recommend swaping the hawks for spiders as these are much hardier and have a bit more punch. My aspect army consists of 2 squads of scorpions in wave serpents, 1 squad of banshees in wave serpent, warp spiders, dark reapers and fire dragons in a falcon also check out this months white dwarf which has an article on how to construct aspect armies
He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day!
I recommend not checking out the White Dwarf article, because I found it to be of poor quality. Instead, just listen to the advice of people who reply to this thread.
I would replace the Banshees or Scorpions, leaving you with one close combat aspect, and definitely swap the Hawks for Warp Spiders. Personally, I would use Scorpions, Warp Spiders, and Fire Dragons, which is very well rounded. For my other choice's I would go for long range weaponry. Never put Scorpions in a Wave Serpent, just give the Exarch the Stealth power. Save's you lots of points for a more dedicated tank, such as a Falcon. Use a Farseer as your HQ, and jsut kit him out to support the Guardian elements of your army. (You do have a Guardian element, right?)
I can probably come up with more, I just can't be bothered just now!
You cannot win, for to fight us is to give us power.
I have been heavily considering starting an Aspect army. Here's a cheese tactic that I thought of, and want to know if it's legal or not.
Have a saucy unit (Scorps or Avengers, most likely Avengers, as my Scorps will Infiltrate) of four soldiers and an Exarch in a properly tooled Falcon (lots'a guns, with the Holo Field and Spirit Stone) also in the tank is a Farseer with Guide, Fortune and the piece that lets him cast two spells a turn.
Fly the Falcon 12" up the field and park it with it's back against terrain and deploy its cargo (preferably 4+ cover save). Then have the Farseer cast the re-roll to hit with shooting (Guide?) on the tank, and re-roll armor/cover/inv saves on the squad hanging out in cover.
Now you have a bunch of Str 6/8 guns on the Falcon that are essentially twin linked (good because of the lousy BS of the Falcon) and a really tough unit that will probably stick around for hand to hand next turn because of twin linked armor/cover saves.
Pretty good, eh? Is it legal to do this though?
That wouldnt really be that great. Falcon shooting wont do that much damage even if guided and 5 dire avengers wont cause any damage and will die very quickly even with re-rolled saves, especially if you disembark right next to the enemy. The farseer and the aquad would be annhilated and the falcon will probably take some damage...specially if its facing back first. So basically, you will waste some 500 points and not do much at all.
Well those are my pointless ramblings on the subject anyway....
uuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmm ye collect biel tan but id choose striking scorpions howling banshees and either warp spiders or fire dragons because swooping hawks arent that good but i dont noe why??
Check it out.
Its new but it will grow if people join.
The problem with hawks is they don't pack nearly as much punch as the other aspects do. People only use them as an Exarch delivery system. If that's how you plan to use them, then fine.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, even if it's wrong.
I disagree I found the White Dwarf article to be very helpful if you didn't already have full knowledge of how to use the aspect warriors.
That Falcon idea is good because I find properly applied Falcon shooting to be invaluable and if you change those avengers to a second small squad of scorpions(or even if they are still dire avengers) than I believe they will stay around long enough to do damage to the right unit.
I can think of 2 armies for whom I believe falcons would be an awesome choice to use against(hint: their basic troops both have 6+ saves and they are CC oriented)

I just started a aspect army and I'm my whole army is based on packin a huge punch and I cant imagine where swooping hawks could fit in to such a army. I preferably take Fire Dragons, they practically cost the same as a swooping hawk, and pack way more of a punch but lack the mobility that hawks have.
As for the falcon with the Avengers strategy, it sounds great, except for the Avengers. Banshees would benafit from the strategy more because they lack the armor save that scorpions have and are more likely to fail their saves and need the rerolls.
