Out in the Halo Zone, far to the galactic west of the Segmentum Pacificus, farther even than the conquests of Solar Macharius, lies the young cold star known only as YL791 by the Imperium of man. To the eldar of the Saim-Hann craftworld however, it is much more than merely a designation. It is named Acrearné, which is very roughly translated as “extended learning. Much of the only planet in the system is tundra and desolate, and when Rogue Trader Santoz arrived in 239.M38 all he found was a single webway gate. Recognising the planet as cold and dead, he carried on in search of greater treasures. However, it is a place frequently visited by young farseers of Saim-Hann, for on Acrearné lives a nameless ancient eldar of great power, from which many of the craftworld’s warlocks learn their greater powers.

It was the 190th year of young warlock Fel’andros life when he visited the planet. His followers and closest friends accompanied him though the webway to
Acrearné, and the small battle-group exited onto the planet without incident. Although Fel’andros could sense immediately that something was not right, and although a careful lookout was kept by the escorting Vypers, the Wave Serpent transports reached the home of the ancient eldar without incident.

Fel’andros spent the time there learning how to control the Warp and his power, and the master presented him with a singing spear to channel his energies, and to defend himself. Fel’andros’ followers and friends stayed with them, and they also learnt new skills, the most gifted becoming warlock themselves. Finally, after nearly a year, Farseer Fel’andros set out again, to return to the webway gate and Saim-Hann.

But it was on the way back that the troubles began…

Farseer Fel'andros, singing spear, Runes of Witnessing, Fortune = 83

8 Storm Guardians, plasma & krak genades, 2 flamers
Warlock, witchblade & shruiken pistol, Conceal =133

9 Storm Guardians, haywire grenades, 2 fusion guns
Warlock, witchblade & shuriken pistol, Conceal =154

Vyper, starcannon = 65
Vyper, starcannon = 65
Vyper, starcannon = 65

Vyper, scatter laser = 55
Vyper, scatter laser = 55
Vyper, scatter laser = 55

Wave Serpent, TL brightlances, spirit stone = 135
Wave Serpent, TL brightlances, spirit stone = 135

=1000 points

I've played 5 games with this so far, 2 wins 2 losses and a draw, and one loss was only becuase I was teaching a new guy how to play, and purposefully going soft on him.

Tactics will be mainly circle & shoot with the Vypers, the anti-tank storm guardians sort out any nasty dreadnoughts or walkers, anti-infantry go to take down any devastators, havocs, etc. Wave Serpents can shoot at any tanks that look like they might be a threat, or transports with nasty things in.

A viable tactic is not dismounting from the WSs at all, in case I'm facing something like World Eaters or Tyranids. Rather not get near them with Guardians thanks.

Any thoughts or ideas? Will let you know how it went Sunday evening.

Note: this is not in the Army Lists forum on purpose.

Well, I'm really, really under the impression that the Crystal Targeting Matrix is a must-have for any Eldar vehicle.

It's almost exactly like the Tau's Jetpacks, but with your vehicles instead - I would always have one of these on it, even before spirit stones, holo-fields, etc.

On top of that, holo-fields are the next best when it comes to your vehicles, I believe. Though, with CTM, you should be weaving in and out of cover pretty often, with an additional holo-field it will make those vehicles very hard to kill.

Remember - a Devastator with no LOS has to move to get LOS, effectively wasting a turn of shooting.

However, I like the list - if you don't take any of the vehicle upgrades, I'd try to find some way to round out the other Guardian squad to make it a total of 10 models (like the other).

What, at 30 points a pop? So that's 8 x 30 = 240 points extra for my army? No thanks, I have many better things to spend 240 points on to be honest. Same with holo-fields, I'm not spending 150 points putting them on all my Vypers (Wave Serpents can't have them anyway).

They are most useful if you plan on taking only one or two vehicles, because then you are almost guaranteed to find enough cover - if you have lots of vehicles the points add up, fast, and you run out of cover to hide behind. In 1500pts I'm going to add a Falcon with starcannon, CTM, holo-field and spirit stones, as a nearly-indestructable roving firebase.

Well, the first squad is joined by the Farseer. If I add more they won't fit in their transport.

Thanks for the ideas, but I'm not really looking for list critique - more tips for tournament play really.

Anyways, I wasn't sure if you were putting the Farseer with the squad or not. ^_^ Makes sense, though.

Good luck with it. ^_^

Tournament Report:

Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear. 2 massacres and a marginal loss...

First battle: against Orks, and I forgot it was dark on the first turn. So nothing was in range. 2nd turn, far too many vypers were taken down by big shootas and rokkit launchas. I though Orks were supposed to be inaccurate? The guardians spent the time pinned and then assaulted. Result: all 4 loot counters in his possession.

2nd battle: against Biel-Tan eldar. I've give you his rough army list, so you can give me your opinions on it:
Farseer, Mind War
10 Striking Scorpions, Infiltrate, Exarch with power fist
9 Fire Dragons inc. Exarch in Wave Serpent (brightlances)
1 Vyper with starcannon
3 Wraithlords, all with starcannons
Take & Hold, went rather well the whole battle, until final turn I sped into the centre to hold, then after that in his final turn he opened with not much and killed too much. Doh!

3rd battle was so much fun, against Imperial Guard. We were both stuck near the bottom table, we both knew that above us were people who scored near-nothing on army character & painting, we both knew that only 2 people wouldn't go through to the final in April. So we decided to call it a draw, and then just have a fun battle.

I lost badly, but it was good fun anyway. One Wave Serpent unloaded it's troops in front of Guard lines, the Farseer split off and chucked his singing spear at a Leman Russ, destroying it. The rest of the unit toasted squad after squad of Catachans with their flamers, until finally stopped by weight of numbers - meanwhile everything else was dead.

Our tactic worked, and both of us qualified for the final in April. Now just to decide whether to use this army again or see if I can get my Khornate Chaos Marines painted up in time...
