That does it, any tactic for the Eldar to use against My Tau are welcome and also suggestions for my friend's next eldar purchase.
Thx a buch!
The problem with his army is that pretty much, all of the eldar fast attack really SUCK!!!!!
Jetbikes are crap compared to space marine bikes, vypers die too easily for their post cost, swooping hawks have crap guns and crap armour and shinging spears are ok but thier too expensive in points.
firstly i seriously suggest a wraithlord because they are awesome. (2 powerfists, heavy weapon, 2 flamers, 3 wounds....... mmmm....)
secondly a transport so that some guys can get to the tau before being blown to peices. (perhaps a wave serpent, well, they hae pretty decent guns and can carry a 10 man squad)
get some more striking scorpions or howling banshees, preferably striking scorpions due to their good armour, umm..... warp spiders have a 3+ armour save, the models look awesome, BS 3, and they are very moveable, like 12 inches and then shooting and then moving again, imagine just what you could do with that...... and get a warlock in each guardian squad with enhance so that they are practically as good as dire avengers, and much more expendable.
against 2 tanks (hammerhead, devilfish) he will need alot of tankbusting, which will mean, fire dragons, warwalkers or a fire prism!!!!!
hope i've been of help in completly critisising his army.

Ok... your buddy is wasting far more than those 200 extrapoints he have more than you.
HQ: Drop Barroth, and get a farseer with guide or fortune. He is cheaper, and far more useful for you.
Scorps: Max out the squad. 5 scorps are too few to make a diffrence. Also, stick your farseer with guide in with theese guys and get a re-rollable 3+ save... ninja!!!
Guardians: Drop the plasma grenades. You don´t use them since you don´t charge into cc when you have a heavy weapon platform with you. And get a platform for the second guardian squad as well. IMO, a guardian defendeder squad without a platform is a waste.
Hawks: are dead meat in small squads. Max out the suqads size if you wan´t them to be of ANY use for you... However I would drop them. I *hate* hawks.
Jetbikes: are infamous for not being wotrth their points... consider trading them for a maxed out falcon.
Vyper: Spirit stones are fine, but Holo-Field, Star Engines, Crystal targeting Matrix and Scythes are an utter waste of points. No vyper is worth that much.
Reapers: Reapers pure death against armies with high saves, but not my first choice against tau.. reconsider them.
Falcon: get one!!
Wraithlord: get one!!
Now, go get him
EDIT: get TWO falcons... or a falcon and a fire prism...
His list uses a lot of the weaker aspects in the swooping hawks. The jetbikes in my oppinion are just plain crap, although they could be useful for table quarters and the Vyper is just n expensive attack bike. Your friend should invest in a wraithlord for start, as this team can anchor your battle line while scaring the crap out of your enemy. Next definately add some warp spiders as they have greatly improved in the new ed of rules. They also do very well against Tau! Possibly get him to try striking scorpions or howling banshees as they both rock! The only other unit worth considering is a war walker squad as they have a large fire output but are weak against enemy fire.
Eldar against Tau i have done this before and absolutely smashed my friend. He should have an Avatar because the Avatar is great for his points and if he gets to the front line he will woop Tau ass. Wraithlord is a must. Larger scorpion squad don't bother with crushing blow if u have a powerclaw, get rid of Hawks unless he gets into close combat as soon as possible with a buffed up exarch. Jetbikes should be in squads of three with one shuriken cannon make sure he pops out from behind terrain shoots and pops away (it can almost be as annoying as Tau battlesuits). Drop the Vypers upgrades except for Crystal matrix and give it a brightlance. Take the plasma grenades and antigrav platform off the guardians, they are to be killed not to do anything. Get a falcon and put Holofield, spirit stones on it and it becomes indestructible. Also tell him to put fire dragons in there for a nice suprise. Attach Bahharoth to the swooping hawks. He should then Deepstrike shoot and next turn if there is anything left of them assault.
Thats about it and he should have a fair chance of beating u
Reapers are great against tau. The exarch can blow up the tanks or take out large numbers of fire warriors with plasma missiles. 4+ saves are not that bad and my tau friend is fairly lucky. So reapers can kill them from a long range (so they dont get slaughtered by those evil tau guns) and kill them on 2s...Its great. A few reapers could decimate a squad per turn...and pin them.Reapers: Reapers pure death against armies with high saves, but not my first choice against tau.. reconsider them.
You also need more anti tank weaponry. You cannot rely on a bs3 brightlance to take out a tank. I usually have loads of anti-tank weaponry and can never kill any tanks...but then again im fairly unlucky....lousy reaper exarch always getting double 1s for hitting...
Although someone already said that...
Well those are my pointless ramblings on the subject anyway....
he's right. reapers are amazing against tau. have you seen what they can do to a crisis team? especially with the exarch's 2 shots that instantkill a suit without an inv. save.
(the problem is that well played crisis teams can't be hit)
that vyper costs more than one of my waveserpents. definately drop most (if not all) of the upgrades.
your friend is definately wasting too many points on upgrades.
-drop crack shot on the reaper exarch
-drop the hawks talon, replace with a power weapon or web of skulls
-drop plasma grenades on the guardians
-drop the jetbikes
-drop the missile launcher and get a different weapon like a brightlance, or my favourite a starcannon
-don't get a fireprism
-drop crushing blow
-max out the scorpion squad.
Yah know it would be easier if your friend would buy a basic force. like farseers warlocks wraithlords falcons grav platform stuff. These are al lstandard thigns imo that will work against ANY army and therefor he should buy some of these fellas. Like others said hes wasting ALOT of pts. If I would use my list vs yours then theres like a 80% chance I win (no offense you dont got inv saves on your normal suites etc so there blown away really easy )
Let him try to proxy some things and dont use that much terrain I know that Tau players really like there terrain to get there fire warriors dirt in it but a normal tbale with 4 large pieces of terrain and the things other ppl mentioned should turn the tide of the batlle to his favour. . . .
And baout tactics. . .Waves star engines CC units enough said . (always work for me)
However with that statement out of the way, I would say listen to ArchonBjorn. He has a really good tendency to not say stupid things and give bad advice.Learn from yesterday.
Live for today
Hope for tomorrow
Um.........You had a squad of one stealth suit. You can't do that. Stealth suits come 3-6.
