In what ways are the Tau better/worse than the Imperial Guard?
Before I reply to this, I first remind you that before posting that you should search previous topics before posting.
Tau/IG Comparison Time
First, both immensely shooty armies.
Slightly above average numbers of troops
Rely on good number of high strength shots.
Longest ranged basic rifle in 40k
Reasonable basic armour.
Faster mobility through skimmers.
S10 Railgun probably best anti-tank weapon in 40k
Use crisis suits as elites with plasma rifles for SM killing
Ultimately worst soldiers in hth in entire of 40k
Imperial Guard Attributes
Rely on vast numbers of troops (probably equal highest number of models in 40k)
Rely on large numbers of average/weak shots.
Basic trooper = not very survivable (balanced against very high numbers)
Awesome tanks, ordinance templates that are downright nasty.
Use larger numbers of heavy weapons than Tau (ability to take multiple heavy weapon squads w/heavy bolters/lascannon/missile launchers et al.
Better hth ability through specialist troops (Ogryns, Commisars w/ powerfist, Rough Riders), but ultimately still relatively crap in hth compared to marines for example.
Tau offer the ability to be mobile or shooty at the exspense of unit uniqueness and basic customization. IG are sit and shoot with a bunch of options. They also have attack units but for the most part they are SNS.
Ditto to Addoran about the searching thing.
