Hi all I was just wondering whether it would be legal for me to paint my army a simple chaos black primer and parts painted codex grey and still be able to participate in a Games Workshop event.

One, I have no idea why this is in the Tau forum...

Two, I don't see why not as long as it looks like you painted them. If it's really crappy looking, then they'll probably say no.

I'd recommend asking them, as they're the rule makers..

At a GW store I think it's 3 colors minimum. Black primer, codex gray, and another color would make the model playable. I'm pretty sure that's it.

Those GW guys requitre 3 colours minimum. I'd just highlight it or add some details with a 3rd colour, maybe a transitional shade of grey, and you'll be alright. As long as there's 3 colours I don't think it matters where they are.Technicalities are great. ^_^

i play at GW all the time using my tau- they are undercoated black, mostly grey with a bit of white. As long as it looks alright they'll let you play with it.

The question was a GW "event" - like a tournament. Casual play you can play just about with anything, even unpainted sometimes, even when you're in the store. In tournaments, however, they'll require you to paint them.

well i think that the rule was invented so when "outside people" comes to the store and see great looking models painted well they might consider playing. and its not that hard to paint the models in 3 colors.
