hey guys, i got my battle for macragge set today!!! lemme tell ya i'm so proud...i got another squad of Space Marines!
but thats not the thing...i'm starting a tyrinad army!!! so far i have 6 Genestealers, about...8 Tyntagons...things...the ranged ones!...u know...
and so i need at least 500 points worth...any advice?
Get yourself the nid codex, some warriors for HQ, and a truckload of gaunts withe schyting talons for troops, then you´re on the right track.
so should i go swarm o rama with hormagonts and tontagons...(can't spel) or should i go crazy on Hive warriors to brute down...?
It depends on you. Both tactics can work, if you put your mind to it. But you rarely go wrong with a swarm of hormagaunts...
well lets say i'm going against a huge fleet of shoota boys and da boys with a war boss....wut u think works best? its a 1000 point battleOriginally posted by Farseer Sareld@Mar 8 2005, 08:21

First of, 1000 is quite a lot when you are just starting out. Take a look at the patrol mission in the core rulebook, it offers guidelines for smaller battles, which is a good way to learn the game.
And about those orks, get some biovores and everything else that says "blast".. There is nothing worse to an ork player than to have piles of pie plate sized blast marker placed all over the boyz in his wartrukks, and don´t forget to get some units with rending for his dreads, and last, get a lot of hormagaunts. They are fast, and they can charge the orks before they charge you, which you really don´t wan´t them to do.
I'm not a Nid expert but isn't there a whole bunch of new models coming out soon? I say wait for that.
And a codex, if I'm not mistaken
1. Wait a month or two
2. never ever ever use termagaunts
3. Never, under any circumstances, use the army list in the front of the codex. Repeat: dont use it.
Hive Fleet Furi Kuri 32/21/4
Tomb Kings: 8/5/2

Welcome to the Swarm! (Y)
However, as Baratos said, the Tyranids will be getting a new Codex and models around May-Jun (Army Deal in may, Codex and specific models yet unknown). Thus it's a bit pointless to start Tyranids right away. Just stick with Your SM for a couple of months more, and then You can enjoy the new, reworked Tyranids!
As for Baratos' entry number two, nobody uses ranged Gaunts to actually shoot anything, since they just suck too badly at it. Thus most players choose the cheapest sucker, which would be the Spinegaunt (Gaunt + Spinefist), built using the Mutable Genus rules in the back of the 3rdEd Codex.
This might change a bit in 4tHEd (points cost, weapon rules, etc), so we shall see what happens.
As for his third point, it's a reference to always use 3rdEd Codex Mutable Genus to make Your own creatures whenever that option is available... The basic armylist entries are a bit lackluster.
If You insist on starting right away, the Codex and a Battleforce box would be a good start... The box contains:
16 Gaunts, walking
16 Gaunts, leaping
3 Ripper Swarms
That should tide You over Patrol missions.
A thing to remember: Always make an army list first and post for feedback before assembling models... The Tyranids are all too easy to model with less-than-effective choices.
And don't forget to read Newbie FAQ On Tyranid Creatures! Should give You plenty of general pointers!
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
