My main opponent is my friend who just started nids, I'm assembling a 500 pt vanilla Eldar list, purely for versitility. We're not playing any special rules, just a head to head competition and battle to start off with.
His army set up :
Warriors ( I believe a CC brood)
Spinegaunts (about 16)
Leaping scything taloned gaunts (16)
Heavy Support :
Zoanthrope ( Warpblasting)
That's all I know so far...Basically a very CC oriented list....He's absolutely nuts about Zoans so he's most likely going to use more than just one...as well a heard of biovore may come into play some time. Don't know what he'd swap out.
I'm basically looking at some options, mainly taking the Support wepon route and trying to stay out of CC with them.
My list is probably going to look like :
-Skill : I don't know. I'm thinking guide.
- Singing Spear (some oomph)
Guardian Defenders- 10
Guardian Defenders - 10
I know that'll be the base of my army, I just am curious about what you guys would take to fill up the remaining points? I'm leaning towards the exarch delivery system of the swooping hawks, just to mess up their gaunts (Seeing as without them he's just got a bunch of short ranged attackers..
a squad of 5 warpspiders might also come in handy
I'd prefer to stay away from vehicles as they are cost prohibitive.
DonĀ“t use hawks! NidĀ“s have the advantage in cc, so you should go shooty. The only units capable of meeting the nids on their own field is the scorps and the wraithlord. I would suggest that you take one of those, and a a vyper or two for flanking.
you could go hawks and use their mobility to fire off Lasblaster shots, if you do don't use the Exarch delivery, just use a basic Exarch with at least 6 hawks. its kind of a waste though, but can put more shots down then warp spiders. remember the short range on warp spiders could come back to haunt you vs nids. 1 scatter laser is a good buy, may want to change the second to the eldar missile launcher to force a pinning test of the plasma shell.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
starcannons or scatterlasers my friend! as was noted before, go shooty. and eldar can excell when it comes to shooty. with a possible six str 6 shost from one scatterlaser, that is even a prblem for warriors or a tyrant.
Find 10 points, then remove both those Scatter Lasers and get 2 Vypers with a Scatter Laser each. This gives you a higher model count, and the Nids may find it difficult to destroy your vehicles. Just watch out for that Zoanthrope!Guardian Defenders- 10
Guardian Defenders - 10
Swap one of the Defender Squads for a Storm Squad, get a Warlock with Enhance, and stick your Farseer in there, and give him Fortune, Witchblade and Shuriken Pistol. Your Storm Guardians can now deal with the Gaunts, with help from your Vypers. Try and use your Defenders against the Genestealers. That Zoanthrope is your priority target, however, because it is a danger to your Vypers, and if they survive, an victory will be fairly easy to achieve. If those Warriors have Leaping, then they're a priority too, and you should try and eliminate them quickly, but if they don't have any movement enhancements, there's no need to worry until they're on your doorstep, and that's when you hose them with Shuriken fire!
You cannot win, for to fight us is to give us power.
Vypers are great for flanking but since the nids are going to be coming to you, mobility and flanking isn't a big deal.
Instead of Vypers use warwalkers with starcannons - 100 points each
One salvo of 6 S6 AP2 shots should turn the zoanthrope and warriors into bantha fodder. Then you can focus all your attention on the little guys.
I wouldnt reccomend gaurdians, since hormagaunts can charge them without taking a single shot from shuriken catapults. Swooping hawks? Actually, that sounds brilliant, nids have a serious lack of shooting coupled with alot of 6+ saves, meaning BS4 lasblasters would be decent against them. Throw in an exarch with web of skulls & Sustained assult and they can be used to clean up small units of genestealers or gaunts too.
