Welcome to Librarium Online!
i know, for a fact, that avengers are always overthrown by gaurdians by most players. everyone prefers gaurdians, and not the big head blue dudes, but why? the heavy weapon is not that good, is it?
I think the avenger's problem is they're still not survivable enough to cost so much. They're 3 points under a marine but still get mowed down by h. bolters.

Avengers are shooty 12" range troops, which means that they will not be able to shoot for more than one round before they get themselves assaulted.
If I could equip them with swords and pistols, I would consider them. Maybe I will make some, and use them in friendly battles.
as people said, you tend to get one shot because of range with these squads, so what is better for the points? quite simply th guardians, they give you far more shots and more resiliance
Everything you have been told is a lie!
AND you can add a warlock to the guardians so they won't die as easy as the avengers.
Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
That and the actual cost of the models I find to be annoying...2:1 ratio between guardians and Avengers for 30 bucks...
Avengers just cost too much in total.
If Avengers could have heavy weapons i'd use them. That IMO is their greatest disadvantage. Their low armor save is a problem but you can put them in cover since 4th edition uses a lot more of it
Yeah.. if only you could. But the whole point of an aspect warrior is to be specialized in a very narrow field, and giving them heavy weapons would simply make them too versatile.
The avengers specialize in wasting points.. what an aspect!
The only good thing about the avengers is that there exarch can be upgraded to get hive tyrants or carnifexes down but thats also for alot of points. There weapons simply suck and they can't do that much vs watever there facing they get outshit with there range and also get chopped in CC so why should you pick them? And yes the platform is just THAT important. The guardians just function as a meatshield thats there only purpose.
However with that statement out of the way, I would say listen to ArchonBjorn. He has a really good tendency to not say stupid things and give bad advice.Learn from yesterday.

A fun way I use Dire Avengers is with a either a Power Weapond or Dire Sword-wielding Exarch and Asurmen. The entire unit becomes Fearless!
I've won many HtH battles against Space Marine Command Squads with that combination. Somewhat expensive point-wise but so are Command Squads.
And as a Iyanden player, Dire Avengers are Elites and Guardians are Heavy Support. My Heavy slots are already taken by Falcons and Dark Reapers so I opt for Dire Avengers. (and don't have any Guardians, either Defender or Storm!
