Hey my friend plays tau and thinks they suck so he is letting me use them once to see if I can prove them wrong...I haven't played him when he uses them but he says he rocks for the first 3 turns of the game and then 5 chaos berzerkers get to him, talks about how one time 3 assault marines killed 20 kroot in close combat because they had to flee off the board. I think his problem is that he plays static and just sits right on his board edge and doesn't use his maneuverablility.
But my question is does my devilfish come with two gun drones...it says it has the upgrade from the armory but doesn't say you get the drones as well, so I assume you have to pay the points for them. However in the little fluffy devilfish section it says "the devil fish also carries a pair of gun drones" which makes me think it already has them...and now that I am reading the codex it makes sense that they always have them becasue I was thinking about the hard wire support upgrade not the vehicle upgrade...thanks guys
I do have another question, can the gun drones keep up with the devilfish if they are not in it? They can move 12" per turn like the fish, but they do it in different phases so can they keep up with it if it zooms ahead, or do I have to get them inside it? (is the solution to move them six inches from the front of the devilfish to where you want it to go and then move the devilfish twelve so it is at the back end of it, and then move it again durring the assault phase...it seems like getting these two free drones could hurt me because it would lower my fire warrior movement by a couple of inches, or force me to only take ten of them if I intend to get the whole 12" move)
The DevilFish doesn't need to pay points for the Gun Drones and the Gun Drones can't keep up perfectly but instead have more flexibility
The Gun Drones are in the Devilfish and they are not with the Firewarriors they are traveling on the outside as some extra firepower and do not count toward the 12 Firewarrior limit
What can I say? Its an Ork eat Ork world.
Sorry to be the grammar police, but I think I need help understanding.
This sentence does not make sence to meDo you mean? The gun drones taken with the devilfish are outside and do not count towards the 12 model limit because they cannot/do not enter it.The Gun Drones are in the Devilfish and they are not with the Firewarriors they are traveling on the outside as some extra firepower and do not count toward the 12 Firewarrior limit
Or do you mean? When the gundrones are in the devilfish they do not count towards the twelve model limit.
And why would my very moble transport have to take an upgrade that makes it less moble?
maybe i can clear this up... the gun drones are free. while the warriors are in the fish, the drones count as passengers on the fish, and can fire from it, acting like little gun turrets. when the fish unloads its passengers, the gun drones deploy as well and act as part of the fire warrior squad. they do not count towards the 12 model limit for a fw squad.
pasta mixed with a little death is a nummy treat for you and me!
The drones don't have to disembark with the Fire Warriors, and they don't form a unit with them. They're only treated as passengers if the vehicle is damaged, so if the devilfish is penetrated (why are you going that slow..?) or destroyed, they have to roll on the Emergency Disembarkation Table and are pinned. If the drones disembark, either because you want them too or because they were forced to, they form their OWN independant squadron of 2 drones.
Is there a page refence for this? The drones don't have to disembark with the Fire Warriors, and they don't form a unit with them. They're only treated as passengers if the vehicle is damaged, so if the devilfish is penetrated (why are you going that slow..?) or destroyed, they have to roll on the Emergency Disembarkation Table and are pinned. Dalahir is correct. Just read the second paragraph on pg. 20 of the Tau codex. That is where the rules for the vehicle upgrade: gun drones is located. I think it explains it pretty well.
Dalahir is right!
I have bad grammar but basicly Dalahir sayed what I was trying to say except clearer and a little more in depth
What can I say? Its an Ork eat Ork world.
While we're on the subject:
1) Drones are treated as passengers for vehicle destroyed results.
a) Are they treated as passengers during the shooting phase, or as integrated defensive weapons?
b) If they are treated as passengers, doesn't that mean drones can fire at separate targets, regardless of vehicle wargear options?
c) Do passengers get to fire if vehicle moves more than 6'?
2) I disembark my drones (say, perhaps, at the end of a fish 12' move)
a) Can they jetpack move during the assualt phase?
b) Can drones disembark within 2' of any part of the fish, or only from their respective recepticles?
When I Fish of Fury, I try to disembark my Devilfish so that all 12 firewarriors are within 12' of some portion of an enemy unit, with warriors in or one flank against terrain. I then disembark my drones to provide an extra buffer between them and the Fish, with the targeted enemy squad being the only squad with LOS to the drones. In this ideal scenario, the enemy unit must maintain a 1' buffer between my drones and FISH, keeping the enemy unit out of fire warrior assault range, and giving me another round to shoot at them. Sometimes the targeted enemy unit decides to shoot at my drones instead, which also means they cannot assault my firewarriors, which in turn means I get another round of shooting.
When I double Fish of Fury, I deploy the fish in a V formation, with less than 1' (smaller than an individual model's base) between the FISH at the base of the V. I deploy my drones to the outer edges of the V: ''V'', creating another scenario where it is difficult for a unit to get into assault. Usually, the 58 shots from my Double Fish of Fury is enough to ensure assaulting won't happen.
If you know the answer to any of the above questions, please help this noob out.
