Welcome to Librarium Online!
I played a 750 against tau on the weekend on a 4x5 board. Now I am still a bit green and I decided to try something other than my usual list. I had:
3 Warriors w/ Leaping, ST, RC, EC 105
2x3 warriors w/ Leaping, ST, RC, EC 210
3x8 Tau-Gaunts w/ Leaping TS, ST 264
Uber-shooty Carnifex (AKA Bubba) w/ EC, ES, 2xVC 174
He had something along the lines of:
Commander in a suit.
2 broadsides, Smart missiles and Rail guns,
2 devil fish with 6 fire warriors inside w/ drones & decoy launchers
3 bouncy Crisis Suits with missile pods and plasma guns
Very little terrain, but well spread out, and all of it blocked lines of sight.
I win the roll and he puts a broadside in a corner with a view of almost the entire board. I stick Uber Carni Behind a rocky crag. My squads were 3 warriors surrounded by 8 gaunts. So they had to kill the gaunts first, before shooting the warriors.
Me first (yay).
Squad one both fleet 6 and sprint up to hide behind a rock.
Squad two fleet 4 for the gaunts, and 1 for the warriors, deciding that it will be better for them to stay behind a rock for now.
Squad three roll just enough to get them behind cover.
Bubba pulls out just enough to take 4 shots at one of the devil fish, hitting twice, penetrating twice and immobilising twice!!! The Fishie is dead but spews forth some firewarriors out it’s rear end. Bubba is no longer in line of sight of anything.
Fishie number 2 decides that it is going to get @rse-r@ped by bubba next turn and moves at full speed across the board behind a rock.
Some clever movement sees 2 gaunts (squad one)get their tails knocked off by missile pods, and a railgun vaporise one gaunt from squad 3.
Squad one rolls 6’s once more and grins as it comes to bear on the firewarriors from the dead fishy.
Squad 2 Rolls badly again, and barely gets behind another rock.
Squad 3 is immobilised by the hive-mind saying “don’t be bloody stoopid!!!
Bubba jumps out sees fishy number 2 (really bad positioning on this one, as he could have not moved as far, and I would have no lines on it – he “forgot about bubba). One hit, one glancing, one pile of rubble with a gun, and another clump of firwarrior spawn out its rear-end.
Squad one splits with the gaunts eating some 5 firewarriors and cutting the other down as he ran, and the warriors scratching some paint of a Broadside.
Squad two gets mauled by crisis suits, missle pods, and plasma take out the tiny entourage and one of the elites.
Bubba Wipes a grin from his face as the rubble pile spews forth a bust cannon shot that seems to disappear behind him. :shifty:
Squad one reforms as a whole as the warriors do their thing and consolidate back into the gaunts.
Bubba Shoots the silly tau gunner, squad one toward the middle to the field. Squad 3 run, fleet 6 and assault the fire warrior scum and the remaining broadside… Consolidate behind the downed Fishie and pass turn.
Move, shoot, fail to hit/wound. They seem a bit scared. :shifty:
Bubba walks forwards for the first time all game and takes out the commander in a suit.
Squad one and three converge on the centre of the field where the only tau forces remain: 3 crises suits. Squad two provides a decoy and crawl out from behind their rock.
Shoot, wound a gaunt (POO!!!
Squads one two and three slam his the suits from 3 different angles, off some really lucky fleet rolls. Turning the suits to mush with 12 rending hits…
Bubba frowns. He wanted some crunchy suits too
Overall, this is the most convincing victory I have ever had.
My tactics worked particularly well this time, and keeping bubba out of line of sight from anyone barring his target was great. I didn’t rush as fast as I could have, as his suits would have crushed me before I got there. But bubba making terrain for me was awesome.
His list wasn’t the norm, as they were reinforcements for a DH V/s Chaos army. So the fishies would not have been in there and would have been replaced with more troops (and GUNS!!!…
Overall a very entertaining battle… and I only lost 9 gaunts and 3 warriors!!!
Does anyone else have any reports? I am the only nid player here and I have nobody to learn off…
Sounds like the food with guns went down pretty easily. Bubba certainly killed his cost in points. Overall, very interesting. One question: did your gaunts have hivenodes? That would be a really good thing to have in case your warriors get blasted off the map.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> They will shoot you and cut you up and step on the pieces and burn them and assemble the ashes and shoot them again and grind them into sand and scatter the sand into the sea and boil the sea away and gather the hardened remains and melt them into a rock and shoot the rock and burn what's left and launch the remains into the sun and...

They didn't have nodes, purely for the fack that i couln't find room for them...Originally posted by kingkrispy@Mar 14 2005, 10:33

it took me 10 minutes to make up the list as we only had an hour to play.
i don't really have a reason, i just forgot to put them in...
i usually play with a HT, 2 units of 12 gaunts, bubba, and fill the rest up with warriors, so i had to recalc the gaunts and forgot about HN's...
good thing he didn't notice when he looked over my list though...
i made this army to beat him...
are 5 warriors (2xAG, RC, ST, TS, EC, 41pts) better than an HT worth 212?
I was thinking about it, and i have always taken the HT, winged, warp blast, all mods, Warp Blast, scream. But i can get 5 warriors for a bit less, that will do a hell of a lot more damage per turn???
i was going to make 1000 next, with two bubbas... and warriors instead of the HT... what do you think?

See the 4thEd rules for LOS and Target Priority and the 4thEd Tyranid FAQ in regards to the revised "Shoot the Big Ones!".
If You played with old 3rdEd rules, that still isn't helping You since You'd be following Codex StBO.--- VCannons can not Penetrate.penetrating twice--- If one unit is engaged with two enemy units and one enemy unit flees, You can not Sweeping Advance since You're still engaged with the second enemy unit.Squad one splits with the gaunts eating some 5 firewarriors and cutting the other down as he ran,

--- If they survive... Warriors are immensely more susceptible to damage.
Krak Missiles, Railguns, PFists on SM/CSM, Lascannons, Meltaguns, Fusion Blasters and so on will all instantly slay a Warrior. Sure, most of those are problematic even to Tyrants, except Krak missiles which ExtCar Tyrants can save against.
Now lets see what else wounds Warriors... Ion Cannons, Railgun Submunitions, Heavy Bolters, Assault Cannons, Autocannons, Krak from Grenade Launchers, Heavy Flamers and so on. All of these the Tyrant can save against and is in fact pretty likely to do so, whereas the Warriors are just so much dead meat.
Warriors do have their uses, but do remember that they have their own weak points... In larger games I prioritize Tyrants for my Synapse needs, but this is of course is my personal opinion.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
my bad on the penetrating (Typo) should have been glancing.
i wanted to try out the 'lot's of warriors' tactic, so i had to cut down on gaunts squads (i only own 24 anyway, it would have been 2 of 12 otherwise)
bad wording on my part about the split:
the 'squad' is 3 warriors, standing in the middle of a 'swarm' of gaunts. when they split the warriors left to fight something else...
I think 2 squads of 12 would be better...Originally posted by Bio-hazard@Mar 14 2005, 21:22

-Can I pretend this guardian is an Exarch?
-Well, I'll just pretend this jellybean is a Dreadnought, then when it's destroyed I can eat it!
