Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well I dont know much about nids(i havent even played 40k yet im going to do a demo game tommorow, my first army qill be sm if i enjoy modeling and painting alot my 2nd army will be nids) but i know gaunts are important, my base idea for what my nid army will be once i make it is this
50 gaunts, each brrod has hive node the rest of the points are for hq, this would be for a 500 pt game, il most likely get the new nid codex this summer
i have no nid codex yet, i am tryig to save enough to get a 500 pt sm army but i want to play nids after sm
maybe you should something other then troops like
Hive tyrant = 19.00 pounds
50 gaunts come with 3 ripper swarms = 45.00 pounds
Red terror = 12.00 pounds
10 gargoyles = 36.00 pounds
3 tyrant warriors along with 1 ripper swarm = 15.00 pounds
carnifix = 20.00 pouu=nds
check everything here :
p.s. all i know about tyranids is the cost and some stats i dont know how you play them but i imagine its something to do with swarming
You'll probably want to hold off on starting the Tyranids until late May / early July when the new Codex comes out. That said, Gaunt Swarm armies can work well if they're properly supported. I advise broods of 16-20 gaunts each (20+ get unmanagable in the movement phase, and can take up your whole deployment zone). I personally use two broods of 16 spinegaunts (they're cheap) as fodder, backed by a brood of leaping Scythegaunts (+ I) for the bonus assault movement.
To support them, I advise a brood of Gargoyles (held in reserve when appropriate to deep strike), three biovores (for covering fire, and to force the enemy to waste their shooting phase attacking mines rather than gaunts), and a Winged Hive Tyrant as HQ with some elite leaping CC warriors as backup (to make sure everything's in synapse range and to kill the things the gaunts can't). You should also consider using a Venomfex (the ranged hitting power will become important), or some Lictors / Genestealers as the situation requires.
PS: The Red Terror isn't an HQ, it's a Fast Attack choice.
Also: Tyrant Guard aren't an elite choice (they're HQ, and you need another HQ first)
And: The Red Terror and Old One Eye cannot be used in a game together. OOE is 1500 or less, and TRT is more than 1500. You're better off with a Venomfex than Old One Eye, and The Red Terror is, in general, not worth it unless you can deep strike him somewhere close to the enemy that they can't shoot.
Final Annendum: I advise against Rippers (You need 3 bases minimum) unless your opponent has few/no template weapons. They're too slow and weak, overall, to use against most enemies (but, like all Tyranid units, can be devastating when used correctly).
Welcome to the Swarm! (Y)
As said, stick with Your SM until the 4thEd Tyranid Codex is out in a couple of months (May-Jun most probable). Assemble Tyranids before that at Your own risk.
For 500pt games, stick with the Combat Patrol/40Kin40min restrictions (except the total points limit). The rules are also available online from Patrol Clash... This balances the game quite a bit and ensures that single tough models have less chances of dominating the game.
With the current Codex You could easily get 50 Gaunts into a 500pt force, but most of those Gaunts would be pretty weefle... Gaunts aren't supposed to be tough, but a Gaunt can be too weak to be effective if not followed by decent-enough support creatures to do the actual killing.
Chaotic Fury has plenty of errors...
Red Terror: Not HQ, can not be fielded in games under 1500pts and will not be in 4thEd Codex (as far as we know).
Gargoyles: You can make them for cheaper, converting from plastic Gaunts. It isn't that hard, just search a bit around the forums and You'll find the instructions! (Y)
Tyrant Guard: Not Elites, can not be taken without a Tyrant for HQ and they do not come with Rippers. Perhaps he meant Warriors?
Old One Eye: Will not be in the new Codex as far as we know.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
i told you i didnt know nuffin or nuffin about the tyrinids didnt i? i never said you couldnt make gargoyles cheaper
