I play regularly with a friend who plays the Necrons and I just can't beat him anymore. In the beginning it was much easier for em to win, but now he hs discovered the ork weaknesses and I find I just can't beat him.
In a 2000 point game he uses 15-20 destroyers, a Monolith, and the nightbringer. I find it to be simply too much. Granted he only has twenty warriors, but even if i take them out I still have to kill half his destroyers to make him phase out and that is incredibly difficult I find.
The Monolith doesn't do that much against me; the worst thing is when he pulls knocked down units through that failed their WBB roll in order to give them another chance. Or if he takes that unit of 2 warriors that I have almost depleted and pulls it through getting it out of combat with me.
The Nightbringer I find to be basically invincible. Everyone says to use a Warboss with a Power Claw, but this never works because the Nightbringer strikes first, needs but one wound to kill me outright and I get no save whatsoever. My best bet is to ignore the thing, but that hardly ever goes well.
So does anyone have any suggestions on how to take out those destroyers. Rokkits can hurt the things if they hit, but the darn things just get back up again and fly away. Big Shootas have the range to match them but they don't do much damage if any at all.
I've also tried putting guys in trukks and battlewagons to get em up there faster, but since everything in the army is Gauss they obliterate vehicles- it is especially bad if he goes first.
Anyhow, any tips would be great as I find the Necrons to be by far the most difficult army I have faced. Of course, they are also the most common one I face.
Geta Looted Basilisk, this can help squish Necron Squads, I would get a Tank busta's( with 4 rokkits) and give every mob 3 rokkits that will give you a decent chance of killling entire destroyer squads which means no wbb.
If you got 2 squads in combat with it then 2 mega-armoured nobz with squads would be really hard for it to eradicate, and the nobz will put a wound a turn on it.
I greatly support mega-armoured nobz in general, especialy in trukks, Necrons hate 2+ saves.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
If he's using 20 Destroyers, no wonder you've been losing.
The maximum number allowed is 15 (3 Sqauds of 5 Destroyers).
I'd try taking out the Monolith as soon as possible, and then go for Phase Out.
Either Ignore the Nightbringer, or mass fire on it until he fails the (somewhat) crappy Invulnerable save. Don't get into CC with it unless you're absolutely sure you'll take it out.
The problem with Phase Out is that I can't make him phase out unless I kill the destroyers. He has 20 Warriors, 15 destroyers and 3 heavy destroyers plus the NB and the monolith. That's 40 models with Phase Out at 10 (roughly might be less if some don't count towards total). Either way I need to get him down to 10 models and that means killing a minimum of 5 destroyers which I have yet to do. I have even tried Feral Orks all with Rokkits (for the better BS), but I generally can't get in range of them or they get back up after i knock em down!
And he always kills m bassie ASAP with his heavy d's. One or two turns.
Just call cheese. Literally. loudly. Continuosly. Follow him around calling cheese!
Don't agree to use special characters.
It is almost impossible for orks to beat a skilled Necron Player, trust me, I have played both ends and the ork army always loses. I play a destroyer heavy army and can pretty much sit back out of range of 99% of the ork army and just pick them off. Heck with the Nightbringer, just get one would on it (you get half it's points) and ignore it. Even in six turn games you should be able to get away from the NB.
It 's not that the necrons are cheesy, but the orks got neutered in 3rd edition and should have been the first codex updated, not tyranids. I have seen a lot of long time ork players (like myself) just give up and play smurfs or switch to Dark Eldar.
After I saw that the Ork warboss was only I4 and T4 pretty it pretty much spelled out the doom of the orks for me. Essentially, they took all of the cool stuff the orks had in second edition (like the shokk attack gun) and gave the orks the choppa and that was pretty much it.
It isn't that the Orks are bad in this edition, they're the only codex that you can't cheese with.
You can cheese with them but it is hard to. Go deathskullz and have 1 bassie 1 Leman russ and one lemanruss demolisher.
or a very cheesey army list
1 looted Leman Russ
1 looted basilisk.
Thats a very cheesey 500 point army.

Sounds like a Russ would be the better choice that a monolith, seeing as it had a chance of taking on Destroyer hits unlike the Basilisk's newspaper armour. I'd simply place the pie plate onto his H
Destroyers every turn and hope you knock them all out, hopefully it will make things more difficult for him. Park it on your fire line, perhaps with a couple of lobbas/kannons, and you will have a turn or two shooting before he gets in range.
Your obvious problems are getting those fast destroyers into CC with you. I think you might consider a battlewagon with 3 twin-linked big rockit launchas on, combined with the Russ you should dilute enough of the incoming fire and be survivable enough to kill some of his destroyers. I wouldnt bother with Trukks though, Destoyers will just blast em apart. The other thing I would recommend is a lot of bikes, fast enough to chase down the destroyers (and get the invulnerable save) and with a nob with power klaw should kill em effortlessly in CC.
All these things should also be fast enough to maneuvre around his Monolith and C'tan. Other than that, the only problem is killing his warriors. You didn't seem to have a problem with this is in the past, the usual big mobs of slugga boys crashing in on the charge should splat those Warrior Squads. Obviously take the burna boyz too so that you get the much needed power weapon attacks. I hope this helps.
