Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi all! I'm planning on going to the store tomorrow and need advice on what to get. I have 60 dollars to spend, and currently have:
1 Crisis Suit
3 full strength FW squads
2 Hammerheads (rail/ion)
I have my sights set on stealth teams, but i'm playing a mech tau army. I wanted pathfinders. but found them too expensive. I typically play against MARINES (lots of 'em) and imperial guard. Unfortuately, defeating each requires completely different configurations and styles, and I want the best of both worlds because my funds are limited.
Stealths are a great choice against both Marines and Guard.
I also suggest a full squad of Crisis Suits. You may or may not use them but it's nice to know that you have the ability to if need be.
Possibly more Broadsides if you like them.
TOGIT and Roll To Wound. Any group or store wants to challenge us come to our forum and tell us. Our group of gamers is getting stale and were all jumping for a new challenge.
I really think that if you get some more crisis suits you'll be really impressed with them as models and units. I know, they cost $20 a pop now, unfortunately, but they are very versatile and effective. That said, their main configuration is going to be a fireknife (plasma, missile, multi-tracker). That gives you some save negating and light vehicle armor piercing capability, useful against both opponent types. Do not glue on the parts though.
Stealth teams are excellent, but they are a bit less effective against marines, very good against guard. That said, you have a lot of other things that are very good against guard right now anyways, so again picking up crisis suits would be the best (I'm not over-emphasizing I hope). So, 3 crisis suits for $60, and you are set, or you could pick up 2 crisis suits and four stealth suits, letting you get a feel for both (but I suggest getting a full six stealths when possible, nothing intimidates more than when you roll those 18 dice for some reason). Those two things are all that you really are missing.
Your firewarrior squads are up to strength for a mobile force and while kroot are excellent, they also often boil down to preferrences so I'd shy away from suggesting them. You have good heavy support for now, so all you are missing is crisis suits and stealth suits.
Another D-Fish to have a 1:1 ratio with your FW squads and another Broadside to make sure that none of his tanks make it past the first turn.
Oh wait, is that one crisis suit not one squad? Oh hell, pick up some more XV-8s. 2 Fire Knife and one TL'd plasma/Drone Controller(I'm biased towards that set-up). What config do you usually go out with on your Shas'o?
Record as of 26 December for my Static Tau Cadre.
10 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw.
Last game: Victory over Necron in a 600 point "kill em all" that lasted til turn 10 ending with a phase out.
I use a modified fire knife configuration on my Shas'o. I have a missile pod, plasma, target lock, and shield drones, shield generator too. Some say i'm a bit too cautious about giving him so much shield tech, but I think it's worth it. With his BS 5, I can get off 8 plasma or missile pod shots per turn using short range jump tactics. I've killed entire squads of marines or terminators in a single turn with this guy! I also usually attach a squadron of gun drones if i'm out in the open to give him more wounds.
Oh, and the only problem is that I also face Chaos Marines. My opponent uses DAEMONS a lot! You may have seen my earlier complaints and posts. I fear for my low skill and initiative crisis suits, and as much as I love their firepower, I can't get up close to use plasma without inciting the wrath of his summoned daemons.
There is little that Tau can do against summoned Daemons, they are my bane. The only thing you can do, which you already do, is keep most of your list mobile. Stealth suits will probably work good against most Daemons though, as they tend to have low invulnerable saves.
Rather than targetting Daemons with Crisis suits, go after his icon bearers with those guys, should be chaos space marines, which of course the crisis suit will excel at taking out. You may just want to buy 6 stealth suits and one crisis suit, and then save that last ten dollars for another purchase run when you have more money.
I think you need to read your rulebook again. The number of attacks on a model's profile has absolutely nothing to do with the number of shots it gets with it's gun. A Shas'o with a plasma rifle still only gets one shot at 24" and two at 12"... even though he has 4 attacks in close combat.Originally posted by StargateAnise@Mar 22 2005, 22:47
