Greetings fellow necrons players,
I'm entering my 1st ever tourny, and IM EXITED. But lets just get to the point shall we.
Ok basically the restrictions are:
1500 pts or less
One force organisation chart only.
no "opponent permission" options, that includes most special characters..
No VDR (vehicle design rules)
oh yeh.. and WYSIWYG offcourse.
I was just wondering what some of you necron Veterans would play in a tourny like this
glad to hear that your exited, but excited would be better=) As per the stickies and faqs, try looking around first, read past army lists and read the critques. Then post an army list, don't ask for one.Originally Posted by Curryman

That being said, numbers. Numbers and more numbers. This is always one of the major factors in necron. Make sure that you have a sizable "necron" force so you don't phase, and you get your wbb rolls. a res orb is nice for that.
Good point, sorry about that. Well i was thinking of playin something like this :
32 warriors in squads of 10 10 and 12
2squads of 3 destroyers
squad of 3 wraiths
Monolith and Tombspider
it all comes to 1,498
I chose this list, mainly because i wanted a mobile necron force. So i can have my destroyers working the flanks and get my wraiths in CC. which will give my warriors time to march up and kill the left overs.
What do you think of my list?
Personally I think the monolith is soaking up way to many points for a 1500 pt tourny. I personally also don't like the use of destroyers, as they are grosely overpriced, and way overrated. In there place I would include, an immortal squad to accompany your hq, and two squads of flayed ones. I find these units much more useful, and able to take the fight to the enemy better. Tell us your thoughts on whether you like these models or not and why, and if you have the models, and we'll get back to you.
Thanks for that, i totally get where your coming from, but i think that the monolith is a very valuable item to have for WWB and heavy support purposes. It soaks up a lot of points, but also soaks up alot a enemy fire.. usually. I have no flayed ones, but i do have an immortal squad, i also have another lord that isnt on a destroyer base. so yeh, do you think that i should maybe get rid of the destroyers and replace them with a lord w/ VOD + immortal combo?
On the note of your lord, that realy depends on your playing style, as such. Getting an immortal squad will boost your phase out number, and provide more steady firepower. The destroyer squad will boost your low AP fire power. I can agree with you on the monolith, and i would keep it in the list then, however, since you have a monolith, your immortal's could teleport through it, giving them a greater movement rate, which would make them a better choice then the destroyers, as they can take more damage, roll for wbb, make a great bodyguard for your lord, and can have added mobility thanks to the monolith. There's plenty of pro's there, but what about the cons. You lose your terminator hunting squad, and the extra mobility of the destroyers. But in the end, the destroyer squad is easier to destroy then an immortal squad. I hope I wasn't rambling just then, and keep coming with the questions,
as much as i hate to play against the monolith, I'd field it non the less.
If you can, swop the destroyers for heavies.
Nice amount of troops, perhaps another few wraiths so if your squad gets knocked down, you'll still get wbb rolls.
The fact that the monlith can snipe w/ the blast is always a plus.
Anyways, if you haven't check out the faq at GW's site about necrons. as these are the rules you'll be playing with, whether or not you know them.good luck!
Yeh, i get what ur comin from, but the thing i like about the destroyers is that they fire 36'' and there guns are just that 1 strenth stronger then the immortals, hmm its a tough decision. Ill have a think about it. i dont have any heavy destroyers i should really get some, an enemy with lots of 2+ saves is my major weakness. although i havent versed bugs yet... Do you guys think that i have a sufficient amount of "necrons" in my army?
Thanks heaps for all the advice.
You see, that's indeed the problem. If you go the immortals, you boost your phase out no. If you go the destroyers, you get a better range, but not as much fire output. The destroyers are your 2+ save attackers, but massed fire has the same effects, as your opponent will roll 1's, if you make him roll enough dice that is. It realy comes down to your preferance, do you want the long range, anti 2+ save firepower, or the additional phase no. medium fire weeapons? You seem to have plenty of necrons as your list is, but that can be improved on. I don't want to influence your decisions, cause now it's realy up to you to choose what you want and why,
One of the better posts i've come across lately=) I really like the last line. You're already in the right direction, have a nice balanced list and something that will play well. You've got all the info, now it's up to you to make this "your" army=)Originally Posted by taint_of_the_dark_ones
You've got plenty of necrons in the last list or with the changes mentioned. Too bad it'sa tourney, or you could proxy yourself those heavy d's to try them out (always take several, pack em like your normal d's in numbers). I would give you good points for compsition as your lists sit.
