What does everyone think of the eldar special characters? I've seen bits and peices of them discussed but I was wondering you're concrete opinions on each one specifically. If this has already been discussed, perhaps someone could direct me to the thread. If not, what are your opinions? Anyone use them ever (or even regularly)?
Well T3 means a plasma gun shot wills them outright Thats he problem with space elves.Originally Posted by Seanchadith
Well, it won't be an issue since they're all T4 (Except for lyanna).Originally Posted by Wolf_Pack

Alright, I'll just give a run-down of my oppinions on each one
Eldrad Uthran (for pre-eye of terror games): He's good, but his cost and the fact that he's going to have to be put in a seer council, means that there's a lot of points sunk into one squad. He certainly has power though, so I guess it's just your taste.
Iyanna Arienal: She would be could, with her wonderful save (which is essentially a 2+ ward save, if you work the odds). However, she has one huge flaw: She doesn't have conceal, so high AP weapons and power weapons just rip apart the Wraithguard squad. Personally, if I'm paying 35 points a model, I want an invulnerable save (or cover save).
Nuadhu Fireheart: Don't know. Never really thought about him, or used him.
Maugan Ra: Not very good at range, because of the shuriken cannon. He's good at CC, but other pheonix lords are better. Not worth it.
Jain Zar: One of my two favorites. Is just a CC special character and is good at what she does. She also adds the extra, high strength attacks that howling banshee squads need.
Karandras: All right, he was one of my first models, so I'm biased, but: He's really good at Close combat and he has surprise assault, so the rest of the squad gets even better. He also has stealth built in, so you don't have to worry about buying it on your exarch (I think). The only real downside is that his model looks kind of funny. I mean, his hat is as big as his body!!!
Baharroth: He's nice and he's got good equipment. He's basically the only reason that I would consider using swooping hawks (I just don't really like them, personally). Also, the withdraw power means that he can hit (with his squad), do lots of wounds with sustained assault, and withdraw, to let the warriors who have more staying power, hold the line.
Fuegan: As far as I can tell, his purpose is to add a little extra fire power, and to do some damage, when the squad gets charged. He seems to be a (pretty good, I'll give him that) CC fighter, in a shooty aspect, so I personally wouldn't spend an HQ choice and 149 points on him.
Asurmen: The only pheonix lord with an invulnerable save, it might even be good to field Asurmen on his own, to make use of defend and distract. I've never really looked much at this guy, but in certain circumstance, he could be really good
whew, that was long winded. Hope I contributed something
Eldrad Uthran: He is tha daddy when it comes to psykers, and the only fieldable psyker that kicks librarians. He is especially useful because he do NOT have to sit around in any council, since he is an IC.
Iyanna Arienal: I would never play Iyanden, so I would never field consider her, but she looks okish.
Nuadhu Fireheart: I would never field him, He is not worth it. Make yourself another wild rider chief instead.. Wild riders are cool.
Barroth: I would field him any day instead of a swooping hawk squad. He is essentially an uber-exarch that doesent need a delivery squad.. that rocks.
Asurmen: Also a great lord. I donĀ“t like avengers, but I do like this guy. his 3++ save and awesome cc abilities make him great.
Other lords: I donĀ“t know about these, I have not yet considered them. But yeah, kandaras looks funny, and it sure is a shame that mugan-ra carries a bloodt shuriken cannon...
O i love eldar special characters you want to know why? well here i give my reason why :
eldrad ulthran : can cast 3 power per turn he has great stats ( for a farseer ) and if you see what he has for free equipment he is almost for free.
jain zar : howling banshee :p i love banshees she has all weapons and in a banshee squad the opponent think Sombody Stop Her .
karandras : both power claw and a bitting blade.
Baharoth : with a swooping hawk squad shes unstoppable you will need 3's to hit and you may keep rolling with strengt 4 it might be useless but she hits many times thats her work .
Asurmen : hes good with a farseer + fortune and with a warlock + enhance give them both witchblade and you will have 3 musketiers for killing the weak targets.
Fuegan: hes cool at fast shot firepike.
well that where the most good special characters the others dont mean much

Check the errata FAQ on the GW website, If you have a seer council and eldrad ulthran he MUST be in the council, regardless of being an IC. Mind you, a seer council makes for good ablative armour.
Although I may be biased towards Maungan Ra in a USF he kicks ass! And you can ALWAYS take him as a HQ.
Drop him off from the Wrathgate with a squad of 9 Banshees with an exarch with acrobat for numbers and assault the nearest squad and you'll see 4 Str 7 power weapon hits plus banshees (acrobat in to extend the kill zone) strut their stuff. This has struck the fear of god in many an opponent.
Typically you are set up from the wrathgate in a good fire position that his shuriken cannon's 24" range is not a problem. Use Crack-shot on transports( allowing you to re-roll armor penetration/wound rolls on tyipcally weak armor, side or rear if you can manage it) or as a softener for large squads that the banshees can assult next. Never use fast shot with him. It is a waste with a shuriken cannon. At BS 5 and re-rolling wounds then assaulting in the next turn (remember he can Fleet of foot too) this guy makes back his points fast. Just make sure to have him near the banshees for conveint grouping up.
Against marines and necrons this group slices through their ranks like a chainsaw.
In a typical vannilla eldar, yeah he is still good. Just plop him in the banshee's wave serpant and pull the same trick. Admittedly, Jain Zar is better in vannilla lists with banhsees ,but that takes opponent's permision and she is not quiet as versitile as Maungan. Nothing says death like the Dark Reaper Phonix Lord staring at the back of your precious transports. Even if he has just a shuriken cannon. Pop it and watch the carnage...
As for the others...
1)Eldrad is to expensive and has to have the council. Not a problem for me as I play Ulthwe but in vanilla lists it makes a point sink that if you lose you will never recover from. He also rocks in USF as his special rules help in pre-game placement. That said I never use him as anything but a Farseer....
2) Iyanna. I do not play Iyanden but she seems to be a good addition to a wraithguard squad. A combination heavy flamer/tank popper, that also has enhance. Put that squad in a serpant and head towards the biggest transport you can find. Drop them off and pop the tank and assualt whatever comes out. Her 2+ save alone will tie up that unit for awhile not to mention if you can fortune the wraithguard.
3)Nuadhu. Umm he is a glorified dreadnaut... and he is a crappy one to boot. Open topped, Str 4...etc. Nope never ever use him. Be a cool model though...
4)Jain Zar. "Please make her stop!" is what your opponet will say if he is foolish enough to let you use her. Fearless banshees with a Str 5 web of skulls .... yeah umm pass the wine for my cheese, thank you very much.
5-7) Karandras- Fuegan. Great for their aspect as they cover weaknesses well. Karandras has a terrible model.
Asurmen. Wow just wow. Leave him on his own and go deamon prince hunting . Such a good character.
