Let's say I have a Hive Tyrant with scything talons and rending claws. He normally has 3 attacks; the Scything Talons give him +1 so now he has 4. Are all 4 attacks rending (i.e. auto-wound on a to-hit roll of 6)? Or are 2 of the attacks from the Scything Talons and the other 2 are from the Rending Claws, or something?
who just received the Tyranids he bought off somebody on eBay... the Hive Tyrant is configured as stated and was modified so that he's holding the top half of a dismembered Chaos Marine by the head, tendrils of gore hanging from its severed waist
Im pretty sure its 2 of each, but dont quote me on it.
If all 4 were rending, then taking a second set of rending claws would be pointless.
All four attacks are rending. If you roll a 6, it rends. I'm not sure what the point of taking 2 pairs of Rending Claws does for you...
Faced by rejection, no hope of acception,
Constantly thinking of destruction, never reminded of redemption.
Forgetting ressurection, seeing only frustration.
Pierced by a lethal injection, Bleeding from wounds re-opened, memories never mentioned,
Images never wanted, thoughts never summoned. Feelings fade away, most happiness freed from its cage. Broken from burdens, everything becomes a haze...

I don't think that all 4 attacks are rending...Originally Posted by Ditchdigger
Also, on a HT, why do you need to be rending? They are already instant kill with a monstrous creature. When you have Strength +3D6 for a rending hit on a vehicle it gets a little silly.
Why not just add another set of scything talons. It gives you one more attack and another chance that you will tear the armour apart.

Don't worry, it's only kinky the first time...
Ok then, 2 people say that its 2 of each, and 1 person says its all 4 attacks.
We need someone who knows for sure which it is.
I too would like to know the answer for this.
It is deffinatly all four attacks have rending (though there is no reason to give a hive tyrant rending claws...he already ignores armor saves). THe reason is that the hive tyrant is attacking with one weapon; the weapon is the rending claws. The set of scything talons gives him an extra attack because it counts as having two close combat weapons. Much like a Space marine vet sargent with a pistol and powerfist gets 3 powerfist attacks, 1 from statline, one from terminator honors, and a third one from having two closecombat weapons. He would get a fourth if he charged but all would come from the same weapon.
All of his attacks have the Rending ability if he takes a Rending Claws and Scything Talons. There are no guildlines for splitting attacks between two different abilities anyway. You choose one or the other and then get that ability for all attacks.
Hey, that's a good point... why are rending claws even available to TMCs if they ignore armor to begin with? Just for the extra D6 on vehicle penetration?
Now I wonder why that HT I got from somebody has rending claws. I mean, it's cool that he's holding a dead chaos marine but wouldn't he be much better served by another set of Scything Talons? Maybe I'll modify it so that the chaos marine is skewered on a talon instead of his head being palmed like Shaq's basketball...
Sycthing talons aren't technically weapons; all they do is give you +1 attack. You can still make all of these attacks using rending claws (glad to see moone has put rendering claws. That annoys me intensly). The same applies to implant attacks; these are in addition to whatever weapon you happen to be using to rip open your enemies with. RCs for TMCs are there for the +d6 armour pen. and also for auto wounding. RCs on a Tyrant are very useful, as they haven't got an amazingly high strength, especially if they get forced to charge the front of a vehicle rather than the sides or rear.
-Kudos on the dead marine, too. My HT has an ork leg in its RC like an ice creram cone, with the rest of the ork under its foot/hoof.
The reason TMC's get rending claws is because when you roll a 6 to hit it automatically wounds.
Would you get an extra attack for having 2 rending claws? It would be like having 2 close combat weapons.
