Hi guys! Thanks for your great advice on my last thread. Well. i've scraped up some more funds and am ready to increase my army size. I have a respectable 1700 point force and need to know what to get next. I'm leaning towards either stealth suits (THEY WORK GREAT!) or maybe firewarriors, but change my mind if need be.
2 Crisis Suits
6 Stealth Suits
3 FW Squads
1 Drone Squadron
I say get another Crisis or three...
As cool as crisis teams are, I believe that a stealth team is a better investment, both money and points wise. They can get off 18 S5 shots per turn, and can jump back out of sight for only 30 dollars! For 60$, I get a more versatile unit with no holo fields or better saves/jet packs....... Although Crisis suits are on my lookout list, their a long ways off in my army.
exactly. i'd say you have a really nice army, and could use more stealths. you might want to consider another broadside, and more fire warriors. i suppose you dont like auxilleries, but if you do, you could get some kroot.Originally Posted by StargateAnise

Yeah but I cant stand an unfull squad of Crisis suits... OCD
Get 2 more broadsides. They’re far more effective that way.
From what I've heard, a lot of people dislike armies with lots of FW squads (4-6 squads) with some stealth teams, just because there's so many S5 shots flying across the board -- even more than they dislike armies sporting maxed hammerheads and such. So a few more stealths or another FW squad or two could also pay off well, depending on how you want to play the army.
Is not strength 5 shots and railguns what EVERY tau army is about!??! If someone can say that, then I'll say that I don't like the IG because they have to many heavy tanks and to many troops! Although what you're saying is correct for "friendly" games between friends. My friends hate it when I unleash full squads and hammerhead salvos.
Personally, at this point I would actually wait and playtest. You already have a significant army, is it all painted yet? I find its easy to get way ahead of yourself when collecting models, only to look back later and not like a choice you made. If I were you, in your position, rather than asking what other people would like based on their playing style, I'd save my money and experiment for the next month or so. I'm sure you can find someone willing to let you proxy a select few models to see which one you ultimately want to buy. In the meantime, paint up the rest of your army. By the time you get it all painted (or close enough to it) you'll have enough experimentation that you'll know exactly what you want.
Now, how about trying to experiment with extra broadsides or extra stealths, or extra crisis suits (and with different weapon combo teams for them), those are the three main tau-ish things I think you'll want to experience before making a final decision. Kroot would be hard to experiment with, and are hard to get used to, pathfinders, I personally don't like (which is why you need to experiment for yourself).
I highly recommend doing just that. I rushed in, and have ended up with too many crisis suits. In your final list you might not want more than 6 stealth suits, or more broadsides, or more fire warrios. Play, and experiment. See what you like. Do you like moving your fire warriors in the devilfish? If so, then pathfinders would be a good buy and you could go mech tau. If you prefer more unit and less manouverability, you need more broadsides and more crisis suits.
