Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am a space marine player and my army is loaded with heavy weapons and assault troops. I am looking for a new army as my old one has reached a level were i cant use it all very often. I want to either play tau or Necrons and i hate to paint i have bought some sample models and they are both easy and quick to paint so that dosent bother me. But i am getting tired of the tau and their one tactic shoot Having said that i ask for your suggestions and if you want to ask me any questions be my guest.
The necrons whole strategy is shooting cuz their not great at CC but they're are way more resiliant than the tau. But the tau have more manouverability and unit choices but the necrons are more forgiving but the both of them are pretty equal when it comes to shooting but the necrons are better at CC than the tau (like every other race).
Painting Necrons is also an incredibly simple task.
Just spray them with boltgun metal add the details and your done
Necrons are awesome in close combat. Have you ever used Flayed Ones?
I try to keep my warriors away from opponents that are ment for cc. I 2 really sucks. But wraiths and flawed ones rock. I love power bossting 6 wraiths and a D-lord right into a space marine commander. 3+ invenarble save!!
the tau acually require a lot more tactics than just stand and shoot, they have a highly mobile army filled with jet-packs and skimmer transports, this allows them to tactically re-position their forces with ease, giving them a good level of startegic depth. also tau models look really awesome, but they are very fragile.
as for necrons, they are okay, but after a while you will probably get tired of their unflexibility, and how it seems you are doing practicaly the same thing with the same army over and over again.
i woud recomend tau due too their cooler models, better fluff, and flexibility. i would have played them myself but my gaming club already had a tau player.
not if ur fighting armies that r actually meant for cc such as nids and chaos.Originally Posted by Khobai
and as for people who r talking about tau and necrons, imo tau and necrons were both kinda rushed out by gw. the only difference is that tau ended up with a lot more tactical options mainly due to their mobility and i think that gw shouldve put more thought into the necrons.
(my first army was necrons but i switched to tau quite quickly once i realised that even when i proxied models all my games turned out virtually the same strategically)
I see what you are saying but i need a break from the tau and i want some close combate action. I saw the flayed ones and the wraiths and the destroyer lord and i just really wanted to use them and i started planning out armies in my head. It is a terrible curse cause when you wake up in math class and everyone is waiting for your answer you dont have cause you were thinking how to paint your models you tend to get in trouble.
I just need a break from tau and space marines they're cool but i am getting bored with my heavy weapons and my railguns blasting everything to bits.
Necrons just seemed like a cool outlet cause they are a snap to paint as i am told and they have some really cool looking modes perhaps i should try the gaurd. But i dont think that i will because i hate to paint that many models and i absolutely hate painting tanks. other than that i have no real problem with the limited flexiblity of the necrons and their lack of tactics. Any tactic that works is all you really need.
From what you're saying, it seems as though neither Necrons nor Tau are what you're looking for. You say that you're looking for more CC. SMs can have CC oriented army lists, so if you're tired of playing SMs, then it sounds you're tired of expensive 3+ AS models and need a challenging army (with emphasis on CC). You have multiple choices here.
I think that DE, Eldar, or Orks might be interesting to you. (I left out nids because then you are stuck with an army whose only strategic concept is getting straight in CC...that's broadly speaking of course and I don't mean to ridicule nid strategy here). Of course, now you're stuck with paiting many models...so maybe Chaos might be your best bet (even though now you're back at using expensive 3+ AS models)
Have you given thought to playing any of these other armies?
