Welcome to Librarium Online!
So what's the best way to do it? Given I've got 2 squads of Wyches totalling 200pts each (8 Wyches, Succubus with Agoniser, Plasma Grenades, Wych Weapons, a Blaster and a Raider) and 2 sniper squads (110 each as they've got Blasters) that gives 620 points gone. So what's the best way to fit the webway into what's left?
I tried two Haemonculi with Destructors, Scissorhands and WWPs and hiding them behind the Snipers waiting for a counter-charge, but that's nearly 200pts virtually wasted.
Is it good to have a large(ish) squad with the WWP on a Sybarite and run them up the middle for a turn or so?
In 1000 pts, you'll want to field a mini tooled up Lord. Use a Drachite with an Agoniser and Pistol, with Combat Drugs, Shadow Field and Plasma/Haywire Grenades.
My recommendation, since you have two Wyche squads and two Warrior squads, go ahead and say you're using a Wyche Cult. The Wyche Archite is much better than an Archon and for only an additional ten points!
As for your army, drop the Blasters out of the Wyche squads. You'll likely never use them, and you never want to be tempted to shoot rather than fleet of foot.
I'd also recommend dropping the Blasters from your Sniper squads, though the thought of the enemy getting close and having four Str 8 AP 2 shots is nice, chance are that if your enemy is closing on your Snipers, then he's already carved through the rest of your army, and he's mopping up the remainder of your forces.
As for getting a WWP deployed, the best tactic is either a large mob of Warriors with a Sybarite carrying the WWP up one turn, Fleet of Footing, and then deploying it on turn two.
The other good tactic is to put the WWP on a Sybarite in a Raider Squad and fly up, deploy, Fleet of Foot, and then deploy the WWP on turn two.
I prefer the latter, as it's much harder to hide 16-20 Warriors than it is one Raider in my opinion. And with a 16-20 man Warrior squad, you only need to take a few casualties before you have to take a moral check. With basic Ld of 8, and no way to get re-rolls or anything, DE units tend to become big cowards at the most inopportune time.
Unless you are playing on a bare table with no cover, IMHO and that is all it is, I see no use for a WWP in anything less than 1500 points. 1850 for me personally. Use your speed and maneuverabilty to stay out of LOS and get where you want to go. You or your opponent won't have the density of forces on the table that you won't be able to hide those fragile high priced units. Use the 100 points on something that can kill someone. An extra sniper squad comes to mind or take the points, drop the blasters and add a Ravager.
