no.... but the pathfinders dont necessairly need to be in/near the devilfish.. but the devilfish CANT taxi other units around as the fish is a dedicated transport of the pathfinders... but could be a mobile fire base and could do FoF with it.. sry.
So a dedicated transport CANT drop off its troops thenm go back and get more?
Short answer: No.
A dedicated transport, being any transport that is bought as an upgrade to another unit and doesn't fill a Force Organisation Chart slot on it's own, can only be used to transport the unit it is bought with, and any independant characters that have joined that squad. Devilfish can only ever be bought as a dedicated transport, so can only ever carry the squad they were bought for.
That rule s.u.c.k.s... Me and my band of brothers have skipped that rule. It's so pointless. And we also play the Pathfinders without a Fish. If you read the inspiration text about the Pathfinders Infiltrating in advance of their army when facing the Imperial Guard. You should be able to come to the conclution that they don't use a Devilfish. The MUST rule is quite usless, I you want a Fish then you get one. And that's it folks
Remember remember the fifth of November... Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason... Should ever be forgot...- = Always watching = -
I most definently agree.
I never use Pathfinders, simply because of there tremendous point sink involving the devilfish.
The only time I will use them, is if my opponent will allow me to field them without the stupid fish.
I still think that pathfinders are worth it even with the devilfish. But, yes it is a stupid rule. However, the free move the pathfinders gets, is very usefull, you can use the devilfish t5o get them into a bunker. Many a time has a game been won by my pathfinders! Mind you a play marines and necrons.Originally Posted by Tonya Tau

The thing is a devilfish is still useful even if you can't transport other troops. If your worried about points than your playing a small game in which the medium firepower and movement speed can win the game for you. If your worried about cost see if you can proxy it with your friends or who ever you play with until you can get one. I still agree that it is a stupid rule that they can't give other units a ride but about needing a devilfish for your pathfinders, what else can you do, jump packs? The ones I've seen on tau are way too large for firewarriors with out power enhancing equipment, stealth/crisis suit. The tau are no space marines.
Do the forgeworld tetras give the capability to skip the devilfish and just use them for pathfinders?
