Welcome to Librarium Online!
The opponet that i play against most is a chaos player. He loves his chaos lutenit and he makes a 200 to 250 point model usually, i know its crazy how am i going tokill a deaom prince or what ever it is that has all deamonic upgrades almost and wields 2 power fists. 2 instant death cc weapons. how can i deal with him he is sure to kill at least half a dozen scarab swarms in two assault phases and he will probably even stand up against my destroyer lord. Please Help
why are you worrying?
Well use destroyers, and mass gauss fire to take it down.
Power fist you say? So he hits last in hth?
Take Destroyer lord wtih warscyther and 3 wraiths to hunt him down, then kill whatever.
my favorite way of dealing with monsterous creatures is to charge them with multiplle tomb spiders when they are engaged in CC, lets see him survive 12 S6 MC atacks from 3 charging tomb spiders, along with the 5 or 6 sracabs they have with them, and attacks from the squad he origionaly charged. this is what i do when my friend takes a demon prince.
Heavy destroyers, lord with warscythe will also make toast of him.
so ou guys say that the lord should be able to handle him huh. Ok i agree but what if he is accompanied by a squad of guys but that would be more points. So how would i handle that more wraiths or scarabs but they dont have enough killing power. perhaps a monolith or some phariahs.
Also how capable in cc are flayed ones against our power armored enemies.
not good.... but they are good if they fail their leadership test... but ya heavy d killing 3 marines from that squad a turn. then a d lord with a squad of 3-6 wraiths
Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers are your best bet.
Fighting a daemon prince in close combat is mostly suicide unless you bring along a C'tan.
So you guys say to keep your distance until he gets to close. Hmm then i should use the destroyer lord and wraiths to cause havoc and disordert through out the rest of his lines. This woul work because they would be easier to beat and i could run them down no problem. What wargear should i give the lord sythe, lightning field, phylantry, res orb, any thing else. and arent heavy ds to espensive for a 1000 point army.
Theres no such thing as too low points for heavies. I take at LEAST 2 in 1000pts. Only good way to take down those pesky vehicles and mc's. Sure anything can wound or glance them, but it is much more satisfying to penitrate that stupid rhino or raider and watch the passengers roast like little fleshy hotdogs....
Just a few things to check your opponent for:
A Chaos Lt may have at most 75 points in upgrades, only 50 of which may be daemonic gifts. If he has more than that, he needs to use a Lord/Prince, which he could then take 150 points in upgrades (I believe), 100 of which may be gifts.
If he takes stature, you can always pick him out in the shooting phase, as per daemonic stature rules. Stature is also only available to Lords, so if he's taking it on a Lt, he's using an illegal model.
Are you sure he's using powerfists? It seems more likely to me he's probably using a combo that's something like Stature + Strength + Dark Sword, which gives S8 and retains initiative.
Without knowing exactly what you're up against, it's hard to give good advice -- but I'll try. (invulnerable saves? Actually have power fists, or just S8 so he instantkills, but still strikes at his initiative (5)? Improved toughness at all? Daemonic armor or terminator armor? Flight? There are a lot of daemonic upgrades, and it's impossible to give them all to a model, so just saying he has lots or most is hard to get the exact character of the HQ)
Alright, now on to how to combat him. Like everyone else said, heavy destroyers will do fairly well against him -- just make sure they stay safe. If it comes to shoot and get assaulted or move and continue shooting, move and then shoot. Destroyers that get into close combat are a waste -- they'll be tied up or killed for several turns, if not for the game. If he's not taking any invulnerable save, they'll be sure to inflict a wound or two per turn, which will make quick work of him. Wraiths should also be able to do fairly well with him, unless he's a Daemonic Prince with Stature AND the Dreadaxe (or just the dreadaxe for wraiths, but rarely do players take only the dreadaxe since ignoring regular armor saves is much more important), which will ignore regular and invulnerable saves. Otherwise, their 3+ save will be good against all of his hits -- he'll probably get 5-7 attacks per round, depending on how he's tooled up -- and their decent WS and high strength will give them a decent chance to wound, but their lack of powerweaponry will make it difficult for them to get past his 2+/3+ save. Regular destroyers may have a chance (hit on 3+, wound on 3+ or 4+), but he'll still get his armor save, so the hope here is to inflict enough wounds to cause armor failures through a volume of shots, whereas the heavies just punch through.
It actually doesn't sound like he's made a super bad nasty yet -- a model with daemonic armor, a bike, tooled up for CC, and a retinue of chosen aspiring champions also designed for close combat are a scary thing. A unit of 5-6 close combat beasts who turboboost 24", receive a 2+ invulnerable save, and then crash into your lines is mean.
The best way to tackle a standard tooled-up DP is the same way you would tackle a TMC -- heavy destroyers, warscythes, and volume fire (from my understanding...I don't actually play necrons, but a friend does). Since necrons like much AP2, basically you just have to inflict enough wounds to make him fail a save every now and then. Fortunately, most DPs only have 3 wounds, Lts have 2 (I believe), depending on upgrades, unlike TMCs with their beastly 4 wounds.
