Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am looking at buying a pre built army of necrons that has the following units:
10 flayed ones
3 Heavy Destroyers
1 Destroyer lord
3 Lords (2 with staff of light, 1 with warscythe)
12 Scarab swarms
2 Tomb Spiders
My questions are few and I think fairly simple.
1. I read the flame forums about how Necrons are a noob army and I am actually looking at trading from a Dark Eldar army to them because I find the DE entierly to easy to win with, Do you all consider changing to mecrons a ste up...or down?
2. How often, and be honest, do you guys honetly get phased off the board?
3. Things like the veil of darkness seem pretty to act for the most part like SMurf teleporters, is there really to much a difference besides the scatter roll?
Last but not least, given what I posted above if I buy the army what would be good additions, and what would be the best way to field the army. I generaly play against a sniper loving Ultramarine, and obliterator huggin Chaos SMurf and a grab more wargear than 10 men can carry Dark Angel.
well ou have some things in there that should not be purchased, like 3 heavy destroyers, 4 lords! the deceiver.
Well necrons might be a noob army, but the thing is that I've played some games with and against, and there isn't any fun to them, they are plain dull. especially against, as they have more fire power than the tau and come back.....
i think the 'crons are fun, i laugh everytime i kill a tank with scarabs, or wipe out a unit with tons of fire. they are a great beginner army and even better if you have played for a while.
but 4 lords is a lot(although i have 4 2 reg. 2 des. just for changing things up and i got them cheap).
the only major thing is that u only get 1 reg destroyer. you will want 4 more at least, and possibly some raiths, not always good but can be helpful agianst some armies. i would get more immortals, i have fould them to be the best thing to hop around the board w/ the lord using VoD.
hope this helps
O my got there is no such thing as a begginer army and if anything it is the space marines. Sure the necrons can come back to life but there are so few and they have very limited options in tactics and units.
Space marines are just as good (dont come back to life) cheaper!!! and better equiped!!!
They are a fun army to play because
1 they have cool looking models
2 their ability to come back to life is awsome
3 they get the "cheese cube" just kidding
4 the ctan are all powerful sortof
5 the gauss weapons and disruptor field abilities are awsome
6 if the deal is cheap and you save money on models you were planning on buying anyway then it
is a good thing.
Remember no beginner armies almost all are good beginer armies IG tanks SM whats there to explain, Necron come back to life, Orks large numbers of troops that can close distance fast and dominate in cc, tau dominate in shooting, and i have no experience playing other armies but there no single beginner army.
Just get an army for the models i get what i think is cool army wise. I like tau cause fire warriors and floating tanks are cool. Necrons cause terminators are cool along with the ctan and monoliths
and space marines cause they have a ton of units and flexibility plus when i started playing the game models wer not very accesible where i lived but space marines were in supply because people bout them
Well you really need IMO at least 4 Destroyers, i personally have 6 and find them invaluable. I've never been phased out, i mean if you are worried about it just keep a squad of warriors back, and that should keep phase out far from your mind. Also personal suggestion if you field the Deveiver you will want some pariahs. The Deceiver's abilities combined with the pariahs souless ability is a really deadly combo. By the way, the 2 tomb spiders, do they both have 2 claws or the staff of light upgrade?
Hope this helps!
Right is right, and left is wrong.
sorry forgot to give advise. maybe phariahs and another tomb spyder for the dark angles. For the ultramarines i would get some destroyers the regular kind. and what yu got should be fine for the chaos just mass fire the two guys Dark angels and Chaos and for the ultramarines use cc and scouts low armor value against them destroyers scarabs and monolith.
i only ment beginner by the fact that you dont have to worry about doing a lot of up grades and keeping track of them, thats all. other than that, you should deffinetly get more destroyers. i have yet to see my h. destroyers kill anything. its always my destroyers(unlucky dice rolls)(i miss with 2 of the 3 shots and normally cant get a wond off of that one  )

nothing has more firepower then tau its their entire point. Im sorry, but we dont have rail guns. best is str 9 ap 2, and there r only 2 units with that, which only get 1 shot/ turn. plus tau's basic units: 36 in? that's just wrong.
my point is against necrons being compared to tau in firepower.
if necrons werent as resilient as they are, there would b no point in them cos no one would play them cos they'd b crap.
the thing about 'crons is that they're basics are relatively rounded. their lack of choice and hi points mean that they r good 4 noobs, but also the lack of choice and their roundedness and specialization mean they r good 4 more advanced players, because if u stay still and shoot ur pretty much dead neway against most armies.
so yes, that is my point.
If you mean, "how often do we lose via phaseout, as opposed to by getting completely wiped," the answer would be something like 99.4%. It takes a really poor strategist to lose in a straight-up fight BEFORE phaseout is invoked.Originally Posted by Intell flux
