I was thinking about making a scenario using the Air Caste pilot models, maybe have a few "abandoned" Tau Vehicles on the field. Each Pilot has to move within 2" of the vehicle, just as if he were embarking, for the vehicle to become game active. How does it sound? Any input or critisism welcome!!
that could go very well a mission that uses sentrys. After the alarm is raised, the pilots have to scramble to get to their ships, could be cool.
OTOH, man that would suck if your sentries failed to give early warning and you lost your crew and so your vehicle support
You could also do a mission where the TAU have a point advantage, (heavily invested in vehicles), but the crews start a decent distance from their tanks. So the remaining tau troops would have to cover the pilots from enemy attack until they could get to their ships and turn the tide of battle.
Yeah you could call it the "Air Raid scramble."
Variable Length, Tau have to get at least 50% of their Vehicles "airborn" to win, or some such.
I've decided to start off small with one 'inactive' Devilfish in the middle of the board. The pilot is an Independent Character and may join a Fire Warrior squad. He must Embark on the Devilfish for it to become active. Oh.......and to add another sense of suspense, the Devilfish is accompanied by a small squad of Pathfinders, lost when there pilot was killed and the Devilfish crashed. So, it becomes kind of a rescue/recoverey mission.
I like the idea, but why would a Hammerhead or Devilfish be piloted by AIR CASTE member, while Codex: Tau clearly states that they are piloted by Fire Caste? I think the most suitable pilots would be converted FW's without rifles or helmets, maybe the torso from the devilfish binoculars-guy could be used. Imho.
Uh, I think the air caste could just be used as Fire Warriors without any armor, as you'd expect of a vehicle crew.
Otherwise he's right, the tanks would be Fire caste. But, all aircaft would the crewed by the AC. Problem is, vampiric probably doesn't own a big manta.
Anyway I think you could fudge the fluff for the sake of the scenario, it's all in good fun.
If the air caste is used actual air caste they should have some bad setback like they cant move as far or lower toughness because natuarl gravity on the surface in unheathy for them. But this is only to go along with the fluff.

Yea your right. The Vehciles are piloted by the Fire Catse themselves...... Maybe I'll convert them to be similar to Fire Warriors in build.....
