Welcome to Librarium Online!
Used a Wych cult for the first time in an RTT this weekend and wasn't impressed with the WWP. Never getting first turn may have had something to do with it. I tied 2 and won 1 battle. A DE army did win the RTT though. He had 6 skimmers on the board and took all 3 of his battles.
Terrain was extremely scarce, 2 small pieces in each DZ at the rear, and while the WWPs did keep my Raiders alive what I ended up doing was giving away 2 large warrior squads each costing me just as many points as a Raider full of Wyches. What would happen to me is on the first turn, pie plates and fire would take out one squad or make them run. This forced me to deploy the WWP from the other squad early to avoid loosing it also. On turn 2 that squad would then get hammered, as I couldn't move them and there was no cover around.
Maybe it was bad die rolls, but once deployed I could never get enough units on the board at the same time to make them effective. In one game, my HQs, 1 Wych squad and a WB pack didn't even show up until turn 5. I believe I would have been better off taking a second sniper squad for the points I spent.
hmm well a question is if WWP works like the USF WWP, as they have similiar play and tactics...
I ahve found that ... WWP has been somewhat unrealiable.. and scary as your army might even come until a long time... which can be nerve racking as you really need those units in play ASAP.
I found cover to support the WWP excellent ( using USF ). as once units come out.. they are very vurnable.. if there is not much terrain.. then imo WWP is going to not be truly succesfful...
difference.. though .. for USF i take two gates.. i dont know much about dark eldar.. but i am assuming they are similiar?
WWP are worth it on tables with more than 2 pieces of cover...
I'd most likely blame your misfortune on terrible cover. Unless you were playing games of 500 points, 2 pieces of cover is insufficient and will screw over any DE army. It's possible that the RTT winner got first turn all three times or something, maybe he had better cover, I'm not sure...but wow, that's a very unfair setup.
Anyways, I've only used the WWP once and it was in an 800pt game with a 3-way free for all. I started my Haemonculus inside a bunker and went 2nd, which allowed me to move him out of the bunker, fleet into terrain, and then next turn laid it down on one other player's side of the table.
It worked well, only because it was tough for my friend to target the Haemonculus, and even if he did, he was in good cover. It made me realize that a WWP is a good idea if you put it on an IC and keep him hidden or something, otherwise we just fall way too easily.
The WWP is still a good idea though, in that it'll keep raiders protected and I think your reserve rolls might have just been discouraging....all my stuff came out by turn 3.
okay so with thed wwp the trick (for me) is not to put like your whole army in their as it isn't really needed unless the board ur playing on is massive. (speed is the DE)
okay so keep a powerful unit like talos or somthin that ur opponent willl be scared of (i don't suggest wyches or archon as they r a little too valuable for me) but still then ur opponent will most likely forget about it as they will be worried more about ur wyches and archon and stuff
The bring the WWP up in front of a unit (not too close) and then bring in ur units
I mostly wait to do it till late in the game so i can see where it is most needed and then have the talos wipe out like everything or at least hold them up.
Also i think, but am not sure that if it is vp and ur unit doesn't come through the WWP ur opponent still doesns't get those vp so free vp for u.
yeah i think thats it
Hmm thats strange dude because I played 15 batlles with a WWP and won all 15. (But then again the dice god favours me ;p)
The main difference is you use a wych cult and I use a normal kabal wych cults cant put as many warriors on the tabel as a normal kabal. In faqt I only got 2 wych squads of 7 man a piece with 3-4 warrior squads 1-2 talos a lord and a RJB squadron thats ussaly sufficient to get it working. of course its still a gamble ive had one game that one of my squads was pinned for 3 turns but the other one was just fine and my whole army came out in 2 turns ripping trough his ulthwe force ^^. imo since the 4th edition the raider rush is tottally screwed we are ''forced'' to play with alternative strategies. (raider rush still works but not as good anymore WWP works better for me.) You should play a couple of more batlles to figure out how it works thats all.
However with that statement out of the way, I would say listen to ArchonBjorn. He has a really good tendency to not say stupid things and give bad advice.Learn from yesterday.
