Hi everyone, after downloading the kroot stats from GW i think they could be a nice addition for ork army. Think about it for 8 pts you get a ork with one more BS, S, I and ld but you get only 3 for T and 1 attack base (but you add one more because of the kroot rifle). You may use squad like that and get nice back up fire (wich ork need) :
Kroot carnivore kindred - 181
19 kroot with kroot rifle - 152
1 Shaper with kroot rifle (you can put a plasma for better killing) - 29
You can use a kroot hound pack and get fleet or foot. Need some S7?Use krotox and get a S7 rapid fire and range 48' :thumbs . They also good for close ( not as ork sure :thumbs ) Put some hound and you get more life.
So what do you think?
Krootox suck, and they can be instant killed pretty easily. Besides they dont have the waaaghhh test where it changes the ork initative to 4. The only thing I like about kroot are the hounds, wish I could take those by themselves. It depends on you, personaly I'd keep the orks.
There are mainly two good things for an ork army there. Thats 5 kroot with 15 hounds and the Kroot with sniper rifles for 10pts each
As a kroot player, you should stay away from krootox, they are too expensive pointswise and dollarwise for what they can do.
If you field a kroot squad, always put an eviscerator on the Shaper, that gives you a hidden chainfist in a massive squad.
Hound squads and vulture squads are the two main units that you would want to include if you choose to use Kroot Mercs, they are very fast, can infiltrate and each have an eviscerator. Give them blood of stalker and they are fairly well guaranteed to assault first turn.
That said, there are three ways to utilize kroot in an ork army.
1) as a distraction / frontal force: Basically you infiltrate them right on top of the enemy and let them take the brunt of fire while you're fores move up.
2) Grab table corners. The ability to infiltrate will let you put a kroot unit down almost anywhere, with cover, or trees its even better as they become difficult to dislodge.
3) Fire support. Kroot can actually hit what they shoot at, as opposed to orks, use this with the table cornering grabbing mentality.
The other main advantages of kroot close combat, cheap points, are already present in orks, so thats a wasted advantage for you.
Too bad you cant use signature adaptations, as one of them is an ork hybrid. Having access to ork sprues, you could make a lot of conversions along that line, hell it'd be fun to regardless.
Well the hounds are always good, I love the kroot hounds. I wouldnt give up a heavy choice for kroot with sniper rifles theres lots of other choices you could take.
I was going to put a Hunter kindred in with my orks but people on the forum rightly pointed out that I would be accused of cheese.
Even though it sounds orky to me... hire the beaky boyz to do the boring parts of the battle (ie sniping) that require patience, so the real boyz can get down to the business of krumpin.
By the way the people on the kroot forum are really nice and very helpful. There's not many of them but they are good guys, when I was considering putting KM in my Waaargh they all gave me awesome advice. Ask them.
I apologize if I'm not very nice. When krootoxes first came out I was a big fan, the models are cool, and they actually can hold their own in cc. But as an ork leader I dont take snipers cause if is a heavy, if it was elite or anything else then I would. I love the kroot hounds if I could geneticaly engineer some I would. They do compliment orks well, orks have certain gifts, their toughness is a big one.
