Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have seen alot of comments made on this and other Dark Eldar sites that the deploying of the WWP is like using a heavy weapon, i.e that the model deploying it can not move after it has been deployed. If it is like a heavy weapon then according to the rules you should not be able to move in any phase, but the codex makes no reference to this view of the WWP. Maybe I'm missing something.
Also the codex states that once the WWP is deployed the model deploying it is free to move but does not specify if it is in the currnt turn or next turn. My reading of this is the WWP squad move in the movement phase, then the character deployes the WWP instaed of shooting or moving in the shooting phase the rest of the squad can fire assault weapons and in the assault phase the squad can assault if there is opposition forces within 6" and the have not fired rapid fire weapons.
If i'm not reading this right please could someone direct me to the right section in the codex or rule book
That's how I read it as well. It is deployed instead of shooting. No other restrictions.
Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity.
It says in the codex, "activated by the model carrying it in the shooting phase, instead of moving or shooting that turn."
I would of assumed they would have used the word "phase" or something similar if they meant no movement or shooting just in the shooting phase. But since they use "turn", I think it means that whole round.
It would be benificial if it is the other way, so correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks for the feedback.
It does not make sense that a squad would deploy a WWP and then wait around to be shot to pieces, it also meeans if the opposing forces are close enough they can then engage you in HtH and close down your portal. You would assume that the squad would leap out to stop the opposing forces from compromising the portal.
It is confusing if the codex states that the model deploying is free to move once the portal is deployed but also refers to moving or shooting that turn.
I think because the Dark Eldar a mobile force that they would be able to assault on the turn they deploy the portal, it makes good sense, it makes no sense for any army to just stand around and be shot particularly Dark Eldar as they are so fragile.
The portal doesn't need to be deployed in the middle of the table of course so you don't need to risk all that. The portal is perfectly useful in your deployment zone. The whole point is that you will get your raiders to come through where you want without subjecting them to all kinds of fire. Also remember that most squads can get around 20+ inches move/assault from a raider so putting the wpp anywhere near the center is fine.
