A friend of mine recently started playing a Necron army and I had a question on the gauss weaponry. He says that on a to wound roll of a 6 the Gauss weapon causes an automatic wound. Now does this automatic wound ignore armor saves?
example: his Ten Warriors fire on my Space Marines hitting three times. Out of those three hits the results of the rolls are 4,5, and a 6. I know I get normal saves against the 4 and the 5, but the 6 I'm not sure.
I haven't had a chance to read through the 'cron codex thoroughly yet so I'm not sure. Any help would be great. Thanks.
No, Gauss weaponry does not follow the rules for rending. So any automatic wounds caused by it still get their armor saves.

The automatic wound on a roll of a 6 is more for creatures who's toughness is higher than the weapon could normally wound, or vehicles who's armor is more than weapons strength + D6 could damage. It doesn't affect the saving throw of the wounded models.

Yea, what every one else said, though rending if it COULD normally wound on a 6 would be sweet, hehe. At least your not as bad as my friend. HE thought any ap roll of a 6 would glance, even if it would normally penetrate....Dumb***
Also Gauss Weapons autmatically glance a vehicle on a roll of 6.
Space Wolves 12-1
Wood Elves 1-2
gauss weapons r actually a lot worse than ithought they were. before i actually knew the rules, i though it was glance on a 6 to hit rather than AP rolls. the thing is, if ur shooting at something with a gauss weapon, weakest str 4, then if u roll a 6 to wound then ur probably going to wound neway, unless it has a toughness of 8+. and precious few models have that. gauss is a lot worse than i thought it was, but i suppose it would kick if it was what i though it was...
Okay... the fact that every squad has a decent chance of glancing any vehicle, and still being able to wound a wraithlord is really good. If a couple of your necron warrior squads just decide to concentrate their light arms fire on a land raider and mess it up / destroy it.
Yeah, when it comes to the gauss ability, I think the anti-vehicle uses it has far outweigh any deficencies it may have when used against high toughness models.
Anyways, even the anti-toughness part of it helps. Its not like gauss give anything negative, so I am not one to complain.
