Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hi guys, I need some expert help
Friday I'm playing a battle patrol game against 3 other opponents and need some advice
opponent #1 Tyranids
opponent #2 Orcs
opponent #3 Space Marines
My troop choice will be 10 - 12 FW mounted in a devilfish (215ish)
My question is should I bring a 6 man squad of stealths (180) or a 3 man squad of Crisis suits (195ish)? Or something else maybe?
CS squad will be armed the same, fireknife style, maybe make one a leader and give him target lock.
We only get 400 points total so I don't have too many choices. I realize this is a little last minute but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
hmmmmm .... Tough one considering the three different opponents, Going with the units you list here I'd go for something like this:
12 Shas'la, Devilfish with Multitracker and Decoy launchers
4 man Stealth Team
1 Crisis Suit, 'Fireknife' pattern
I think that adds up to 400 exactly. You have to take a stealth team as they're just so fluffy for a combat patrol, and they have infiltrate which is the only special rule you're allowed to use. But you will also need the Fireknife for the vehicle popping although massed burst cannon/pulse rifle fire will bring down most vehicles eventually.
Hold the fireknife back in the early turns, use the full range of the missile pod and take out any Buggies/Rhinos/Tyranid Warriors that the enemy have. Use the stealth team to constantly harrass the enemy, but I'm sure you know how to do that. And Form a nice Firebase with the FW in cover (again using their full range) in the early turns, use the DF to relocate them or Fish Of Fury the enemy in the last turns.
That's probably what I'd do, hope that helps.
Just beware that your Stealths really lose their edge against Tyranids, as some bugs can move a total of 2' in one turn. Whiddle Gaunts and other fast bugs down with your Pulse Rifles before mopping them up with the Stealths.
hmmm ... couldn't find the rule about having only one elites choice, so I think that list is legal. Someone let me know if I'm wrong ^_^ . MobiusPrime is right about the tyranids though, you'll have to be careful with your stealths.
If you do take a devilfish don't give it any upgrades. At only 400 points you don't need to put anything into a vehicle that only serves to move 12 models around. Personaly, I wouldn't pay for one in such low point games and opt for more firepower. A Broadside with Multi-traquer and plasma upgrade comes to mind but that might be extreme.
As people have already mentioned, using stealth suits when Hormaguants are near cna be a death wish. They don't need to see a stealth suit to assault it.
Crissis suits would be better here. Equip them with plamsa, missiles and a multi traquer. Don't bother with anything else such as a hard wired target lock or upgrading there rank to team leader or shas're because there won't be much point. Unless you're picking off one solitary marine which is remote and still not a definate kill.
There once was a Lord named Vlad,
Who's fighting skillz really were mad.
He killed and he maimed,
He spilled blood in Khorne's name.
And the fact that he's legal makes me glad
(special thanks to Uriel Zarium for the last line/touching it up)
