Welcome to Librarium Online!
Who else hates the old gargs and wants some more new ones?
I h8 the old ones, they are so rubbish! :realmad:
I wish that they would make some new ones.
at the moment I am designing some new ones and I'm going to send them into the big GW
it wont work but it will hopefully get them thinking about making some more.
also the old stealers were well out of date and needed a good makeover.
they were released about a million years ago in the first space hulk boxed set.
they've done a great job on them now though, along with the new Broodlord the should mince anything with frightening ease.
and the new models are outstanding!
time for me to get saving for the new ones!
new additions for my hive fleet ( hive fleet juggernaut ). lovely!
see ya ( turning into a trademark really isn't it! )
To answer your question very directly: pretty well everyone hates the old gargoyles.
It isn't just the design of them (which some players actually don't mind too much), but the fact that they demand to be played in a swarm manner similar to gaunts and yet are metal and come in very small, very expensive blister packs. It means that to field a decent sized brood of gargoyles, you have to spend a ton of money.
IMO, the gargs should have been one of the first Tyranid models to undergo an overhaul (and it goes without saying, but they need to be plastic).
Yeah. . . I love the unit, but hate the model.
The sculpt is pretty good, but there are a number of problems with assembly. Alot of people will tell you that the wings keep falling off, though I haven't had that problem. The problem that I had was their bases: they don't fit properly. Sometimes the hole ends up too big and other times too small. Out of the ten Gargoyles I have, only 3 sit on the base properly.
Then there's the cost. Based on the Canadian pricing, a Gargoyle costs twice as much as an Assault Marine per point.
rules and look of the models, oke
price of the models and number you need to ake them egal, not so oke.
Solutin, I made my own plastic version of them.
The old ones were atrocious, the new ones are much better! (Y)
Or did You in fact mean the current ones? This is why it's a good idea to refer to the edition rather than something rather fuzzy, like whether a model is "new" or "old"... It'll prevent older players to leave You with stingy remarks like this.
Back on track, I myself like the 3rdEd sculpt... After all, I'm comparing it to the 2ndEd one, which was atrocious (like most of the 2ndEd models, IMO). Rules and pointswise, nothing at fault.
Being metal is the biggest gripe, and one solved relatively easily with some minor converting... Of course, getting a ready-made set of plastic Gargs would make things that much simpler.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
I prefer the original (2nd edition) models tbh. Better wings, and they didn't have guns, they vomited over you. Awesome.
Good comparison shots are here (You'll need to scroll down): http://kofler.dot.at/40k/tyranid.html#unit
The models aren't THAT bad. If they were plastic, came in boxes of 16 and had sleeker, evil-er models, they'd be the ultimant cool unit! As long as they keep them in blisters, I'm keeping my squad to 12. Its still expensive, so they should be plastic!
"If a ninja does anything anywhere it won't make a sound, but if it does it's probably gonna be the last sound you hear."
The 2nd Edition gargoyles look like gremlins with blowguns... and if they're not painted well the gun stuck to their face makes it look like they're gonna smooch their enemies to death. :p
