Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was just wonder how people use their vypers.
do you use them for "sniping" with ctm? or marine hunters with star cannons? or against light intanrty and light vehicles with scatter lasers?
do you upgrade them or leave them the way they are?
how many do you take?
things like that.
i plan on using 2 with just scatter lasers just for anti intanrty. the way i see it, is if each of them kills a space marine a turn the pay for themselves.
so let me know...
Right now I only have 1 Vyper but im planning on getting 2 more. I either use them with bright lances to go take hunting or starcannons/scatter lasers for troop hunting.
Don't bother with scatter lasers. Either starcannons or Brightlances. Starcannons work out well since the 3 shots counter for the inability to hit half the time. Brightlances if you need more antitank
Everything I have told you, even this, is a lie.
I advice against BLs because the ability to move 12 and still shoot (with your [defensive] Starcannon) is invaluable for grabbing table quarters and flanking enemy units. Starcannons are also more usefull at hunting enoying opponents such as Vindicare assassins and Tau...ugh (the guys with the Burst Cannons, forgot their name right now). Of course, if you play Saim Hann, you'll probably have to take a couple Vipers with BLs, and USF, well, that's a whole other matter. And if I wanted a Viper to hunt light infantry, I would rather take a Viper with two Shurikan Cannons rather than a Scatter Laser; the former is a guaranteed 6 S6 shots a turn as opposed to the average 3.5 for the latter.
Our Time Will Come Again...
I opt for 2 Vypers with Starcannons, each taking up its on slot on force organization. This way they have great mobility, and your opponent has to split their fire to take them down. The only place I use scatter lasers is on my warwalkers. I find that a starcannon and a scatter laser on a warlwalker is very effective.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
I always put spirit stones on my vypers, eventhough everyone else seems to think that it is a bad idea. Those stones usually saves my vypers once or twice before the vehicle is destroyed, and I find it worth it.
As for weapons, I only use two diffrent diffrent settings:
Scatterlasers: This cheap weapon has 12" better range and 0,5 more shots per round on the average than a shuriken cannon, for the whooping price of +5 pts.The AP of thic weapon is crap, but against lightly armored vehicles it is in fact better than a starcannon. Furthermore, lesser tactically gifted marine players tend to ignore the scattervyper, thinking that it is harmless, untill it reaches the rear armor of their preds :shifty:
Starcannons: Kills everything, one of the most versatile weapons in the game.
I never upgrade my vypers. Keep them cheap and (sort of) expendible. I tend to only use multi shot weapons because of the low BS, save the one shot weapons for wave serpants and WLs. Starcannons are good, the vypers ( I have 2) can flank either together or one each side and nail units caught on their own. Alternitivly use the starcannons to take out expensive HQ.
Scatterlasers are okay to use if there are goung to be lots of light infantry eg. Orks, Tyrinids, some eldar. Generally the starcannons can be effectivilly used.
i would keep my vypers tone down ( as i play USF )
but even still i would keep them relatively cheap, more as a mobile fire support unit.
i would recommend magnitized weapons for the adaptability vs your upcoming oppenents..
or you can be like me and have 7 vypers LOL. ( i dont use all 7 )
ctm, well they are good to save your arse yes yes.. but too much pts imo.
they are just a supporting unit to me. not any game winners.
look at the rules about this again zenOriginally Posted by Zenfear
