if, in a codex, it mentions 2 weapons for a unit (eg orks: slugga and choppa), does that mean they have 1 more attack than marked? i kno u can upgrade things to give them another attack by giving them a 2nd weapon, but do they have 1 more attack than marked if they automatically have 2 cc weapons, eg claws and barbed tail...
if so, im getting wraiths as soon as possible as they seem to kick donkey.
i think they probably do, there are examples like this in other stats like jetbikes and their extra toughness. on that subject do wraiths get that? i dont think so, but just to check. im mainly confused about the weapons.
do u think a d/lord with scythe with a group of wraiths would b any good: it would negate the wraithflight but add sum serious firepower...
I would assume they don't get an extra attack, because they're just illustrating what the weapons that count towards the total would be.
Models only get an extra attack for 2 CCWs. This means they must have 2 actual close combat weapons (for example, a powerfist and a generic CCW), a pistol and a CCW (for example, a plasma pistol and a power weapon), a bolter, a CCW, and the "true grit" ability (for example, a bolter and a power fist), OR another special rule/army specialization that allows them to have it and will be noted in their respective codex.
For instance, tyranid scything talons state they count as 2 CCWs, thus giving an extra attack. Similarly, daemonic talons for Chaos note this. Kroot for Tau have a note that says their rifles count as 2 CCWs. If the codex doesn't mention it, and they don't meet the above criteria, then they don't get an extra attack.
Necron models that are treated like jetbikes only receive the movement benefits of jetbikes. They don't get any added toughness or anything along those lines. I don't believe wraiths get any extra attacks, but I may be wrong on that note -- check your codex. Some models (for instance, assault marines) have 1 attack listed in their profile, but come equipped with 2 CCWs, so they have 2 attacks each in effect.
wraiths have 3 attacks listed in their profile, but under weapons it mentions 2 different cc weapons: claws and barbed tail, as in ur sm example, so i want to kno whether they actually have 4 attacks.
on the subject of jetbikes, i dont think wraiths get the toughness bonus, bcos in the codex it only says 'moves like a jetbike' under it's wraithflight rule.
destroyers and heavy destroyers, however, get the toughness bonus because they have the rule: Jetbike
wait so for a destroyer since it says counts as jetbike they get +1 toughness to what it says in the codex?? I'm well confused now...someone with experiance please sum all of this up?
as for the wraiths I'm fairly sure they only get the 3 attacks it states in the codex...but i have a question, a chaplin with a plasma pistol...does he get 3 or 4 attacks? in the codex it says 3, but my friend plays with a plasma pistol so does he get 4 attacks?
"Not all treasure is silver and gold."
A chalpain has 3 attacks base. Now if your friend was to equip the chaplain with a plasma pistol he would get an extra cc attack, because the chalpain comes with a power weapon so would gain 2 cc for the extra attack=4. If he was to buy the terminator honors he would gain another attack to make 5 and on the charge 6 power weapon attacks from the chalpain
Right, the simplest way to clear this up is the rulebook.
To explain the +1 attack for CCW see page 40 of the rulebook, heading "+1 two weapons".
To explain Jetbike rules see page 54 of the rulebook.
The important thing here is that the close combat weapon has written somewhere "counts as a close combat weapon" or "is a close combat weapon". As far as I remember neither the description for the claws or the tail states anywhere they are a CCW, and so you don't get any attack bonuses above the given stats. Saying that, they are pretty kick ass anyway, a unit of 3 has 12 S6 I6 attacks on the charge.
As for the jetbike issue, the Necron codex states Wraiths have Jetbike movement, but not that they are actually jetbikes. So they will move like Jetbikes (Turbo-boost, fall back 3D6, ignore difficult terrain), but they aren't actually jetbikes. If they did gain the toughness bonus, the modified toughness would be in brackets next to the normal toughness as with all other bike units.
cool, thanks for the clarification...I'll be sure to read things more carefully in the rullbook/codexes next time, as my question just came from not knowing the rules well enough.
"Not all treasure is silver and gold."
Here's something, though: page 264 of the rulebook calls wraiths and all kinds of destroyers jetbikes. It doesn't say that they only move like jetbikes (as it does with scarabs). Aren't we to take the rulebook as the overriding rule and, thus, treat wraiths and destroyers as jetbikes, complete with the bonus to toughness?Originally Posted by Addoran
thank you and good night
No, the individual Codices always overrule the rulebook, except in very rare cases (in which case it is usually specifically pointed out).
