    wyche help

hey guys just found this forum and i must say its a winner
anyways ive got a DE army which i love playing with. it consists of
    40 troops
    archon retinue of incubi
    talos
Asdrubeal Vect (who was on special so i grabbed him but now regret coz its usless)
    3 reavers
    5 wyches
    raider
and um i think thats about it.

any ways im having trouble using the wyches. basically coz ive only used them once i have no idea on how to use them.
im usually playing an elder army a space marine army and an ork army
currently i have the un-updated codex  taking our games workshop long enough to get the new one in!!
anyways if some1 could point me in the direction of wat to do with these wyches it would be much appreciated, i wana keep using them but im thinkin untill i get the new rules (hopefully soon) im at a disadvantage.
so if some1 could explain the half weapon skill 4+ invulnerable and wat i should give them in regards to spec weapons n things, outline attacks and things of that nature it would be a great help.

    cheers Mark

Well firstly, the major problem you are probably having is the squad size. 5 of anything is never going to be survivable, you need a nice squad of 10 for attacks, casualty allocation and survivability.

Wyches are a specialist CC unit that is intended to destroy enemy specialists CC units, they struggle more against weak, rank and file units. Wyches get a +4 invulnerable save that means they get saves even against power weapons. They also have incredible iniative which means they generally go before similiar CC units. Give them wych weapons and they halve the enemy's weapon skill, meaning they generally always hit on a +3. A specific example is that Tau hit wychs with wych weapons on a 5+. Another great thing is that they remove enemy attack bonuses for close combat weapons and pistols. For example when you get charged by Orks and they usually get 2 attacks basic for choppas and pistols, the wych weapons mean they only get one attack instead. This again is great for nullifying close combat orientated enemy squads. Get into Close Combat with a veteran squad and their chainswords become worthless. Another thing I would do is upgrade one to a succubus, and give her an agoniser. This power weapon is great for extra kills on marines, and counts as a 'hidden' power-weapon, seeing as the succubus can't be specifically targetted in close combat, you can just keep her 2" away and keep removing wyches around the enemy. This way you can ensure that she can keep swinging away to the last. This is especially useful against Eldar as she gives the squad the ability to kill a Wraithlord!

The ultimate lesson with wyches is that get them into CC with a dedicated enemy CC squad, and at worst they will frustrate him, at best they will kill them. Don't ever ever let them get shot, always fleet of foot so that you can move further and ensure you get the charge.

thanks for that, depending on who i play is to whether they go on my raider or not, its hard decision between them and my archon unit, archon unit is killer in close combat but slower across the floor, where as wyches have fleet on foot so i could always hide them behind my vect, untill the new rules come out where skimmers dont block line of sight!! hopefully my talos can take most of the fire like usual

You can only use Vect in 2K or greater games. I don't see that many points with what you list. Use him as a normal Ravager or Raider instead. Wyches have been commented on and I concur. 3 Reavers will do nothing but die quickly unless you have given them Blasters or Shredders. They will still die fast but at least have a chance of taking something with them. How big is your HQs? Can't tell from the post, but if you are running around with more than 5 Incubi or if any of them have a Blaster, seriously consider reconfiguring them.

DE are mail order only now. You could get the updated CODEX quicker by ordering it from GW yourself if you are waiting for your store to get one.

I would suggest keeping your hq on the raider...otherwise you have an extremly expensive footslogging HQ that will get blasted by everybody (incubi can't FoF). Also note that the wyche dodge save is only in cc not from shooting. I would highly suggest getting another raider for your wyche squad because a 6+ save means you loose the whole squad to one round of bolter fire.

I have a question about Reavers, do they count as having two cc weapons? (eg 1 for the bike, and 1 for the riders s. pistol) Just wondering.

My question is how many points do you normaly play by. Your could use more wyches, well a few more than 5. 40 models isnt a whole lot when your facing orks, or eldar.

thanks for all the imput guys, in relation to your questions, my army was put together about a year ago for basically a base amry thats why its still pretty basic. a use the jetbikes as tank hunters basically fitted with a blaster and succubus with haywire grenades they can take out either the drednoughts or the battle tank or the land raider or grav tank even the wraith lord i always have to face,(its bad when u beat every1 1v1 coz then when u play ffa games u get ganged up on!), anyways thats all there usefull. my hq which is usually on my raider is an archon 4incubi and 2 warriors. incubi have there normal stuff. archon and the warriors are equiped differently to what army im fighting.
we play lots of house rules to keep everything runnin smooth, more so in regards to army selection and things like that. i always get screwed with it coz my army stretches to make 1500, like really stretches, and i versus a 2000 point SM army and 1800 point elder army and a 1700point ork army.
so with a reletivly cheap army i come in under every1 else but still win. so dont think im a newb im actually really good on the battle top and stratergising. i know i cant use vect with the size army i got but theres they house rules, they let me use it. although he doesnt really do anything good so whacking it down to another raider or a ravenger might be a good idea.
how long does it take to order from GW. coz im gettin really pissed about the games world where i am, they take so long to get it down. i need the new rules something wikid. i want to expand my army a bit more and try some tournament fighting. to see how good my skills really are.

Delivery date will have a lot to do with where you live. It shouldn't take long at all for delivery if you are able to order by phone or on the GW website with a credit card. If you order by mail with a check expect the check to clear before they send your order out. Since I live near one of the US distribution centers I have placed an order early one morning and have it actually show up the next day. Three is the longest I've ever waited.
