Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm a necron player, but i recently played against some tyranids at 1500 pts. My opponent took a Lictor, and on turn 2 revealed it because my warriors were right next to it. he charged it in, but then at the end of the assault phase, ran it away (i don't know what the rule is called... it's 3 D6 inches away isn't it?).
now, i would have thought that against a shooty-type army you would want to keep them in combat, but next turn i moved forward and shot at everything within range, with me and my ally's armies. Everything within range comprised of the lictor. alone. it died. i would have thought he could have kept it in combat until some of his other units could get there, rather than getting it owned by gauss fire. would there have been another reason for moving it?
(btw, the warrior squad it was in combat with took down his ally's Vanquisher (with demolisher cannon) the next turn)
the lictor caused 1 casualty after we'll be back.
The ability is called "Hit and Run" and yeah the way that guy used it wasn't too bright. Since it can be done at the end of any assault phase, what he should have done is stayed in combat at least until the end of your assault phase. At that point he can fall back safely without having to worry about being shot at, then charge forward and assault again during his own turn.
sounds like you've had an encounter with a show off , a very abd one a that.
"he he look at me, i can run away, u cant attack back!!"
Falling back in your enemys turn can work...
This works best if you have used 2 lictors in the same assault.
If you have done some damage, around 3 kills with a good rending roll. Fall back to good cover, preferably ruins (4+cover) with the lictors abilities it become a 2+ cover save.
They will probably unload everything they have at the lictor(s). With a 2+ save its has a good chance of surviving and then charging back in the next turn. This saves alot of fire at the rest of the swarm.
I've done this, even players of some standing can fall for it.

I must say we are probably the best army at having alot of bullet catchers. Lictors, the "C'tanifex", broodlords.....the only thing that doesnt make sense is we can have them all in a 1500 pt. game
