Welcome to Librarium Online!
Just got the Tyranid Army box and was very impressed. I have never played Tyranid before but a look at the new codex and models pulled me in. I am looking forward to playing them ASAP, though they are now a very different Tyranis than I have been used to facing.
My main question lies at the heart of building a list. I have faced many Tyranis armies in the last 3 years, which have mostly fallen into 3 categories: 2 HTs, 2 Fexes, and lots of Gaunts, Rending Rippers from Hell, and ecclectic "I love this model" armies. Things have definitely changed with the new Codex and I was wandering what advice I could get on building a "beginner" Tyranid army to learn with. My available models are the Army Box plus 8 Stealers, 3 Warriors, 8 Hormagaunts, and 8 Termagants.
Any and all help is appreciated.
well you can't really build you army on any other way than what comes with the armyset... but one advice is not to mix shootly models with CC ones... like have 1 of 3 warriors in a brood shootly and the other 2 CC oriented... that's bad.
hm... spine gaunts is the way of sootly gaunts... they're probably the cheapest tyranid you can get and they're not THAT bad. Do not over biomorph gaunts as their purpose is to die to let bigger creatures live. A gaunt should always cost less than a SM... my policy is not to override 12pts on gaunts.
If you want you can convert gaunts to gargoyels by attaching wings to them... that's way cheaper than to buy gargoyels.
I'd at least give stealers ExtendedChar now so they can survive bolter fire. and hide them well between or in cover.
Walking Tyrants should most of the times... if not always shootly tyrants. And Flying Tyrants should always be CC ones. If the tyrant is on foot then use tyrant guard when you have them avalable.
hm... buy 3 biovores since they're a very nice addition. Very anoying... and very effecive against troops with 5+sv.
Get yourself a shootly fex... if not buy a old one then wait until the new battleforce comes out. You'll need the additional gaunts as well.
Well that's what I can think of for now... good luck
Use what you have now and get 2 Guard for your Tyrant, a Carnifex and some more zoanthropes
